View Full Version : Plans

I recall someone previously (mad monk I think) posting floor-plans here for comment. Just wondered if anyone knew any good sites to view kitchen floor-plans. I've tried googling for some but not come up with much of use.

The reason is that I've done very little to this place of mine since I moved in just over a year ago, and one of the rooms I'm not happy with is the kitchen. It's fairly small with internal dimensions of 7' 11" x 13' 3.5" although that wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that 3 of the 4 walls have doorways, thus breaking up the usable space.

I have contemplated the idea of closing a doorway but it isn't reasonable without major changes elsewhere in the house, so isn't looking a feasible option.

Was just hoping that if I found sites showing ideas there may even be one or two similar to my own situation.

Been proving difficult at the moment as everything I've tried turns out not to fit properly. The worst being the conclusion that in a 7' 11" space, units both sides is going to be too cramped thus cutting almost in half the amount of usable space for work-tops and units and well, everything.

The extensions someone added to this house are really weird when you try to utilise them. I get the impression they slung up the walls where they seemed convenient, with no thought as to how the rooms would work afterwards. You should see the ludicrously deep & narrow alcove behind the bathroom door, that the too wide clear glass window partly enters. Madness.

You could burn down your house, claim on the insurance and spend all that money on rebuilding your house with a less annoyingly shaped kitchen.:)

I think my kitchen is a lot smaller than that floorspace wise but it's square, has one entrance (no door) and really good useage of space.

Ok, that's 4x2.4 meters? I suppose both 4 meter walls have a door in them?

Sure do. Not directly opposite each other (which would have been useful) but offset. Nearer one end, and the 3rd door is at the other end.

Been thinking about this since I posted and may have a workable solution, but hardly ideal. It'd just be nice to see other options.

If they'd just built out another 3 foot it would have helped. May need to gut it soon, but not finding the nerve just yet.

Try the Ikea site.

Ok, that leaves you with 2.4 + 2.something meters in a corner, right? Should be enough for stove, water, dishwasher and storage. And a fridge could go into another corner. How much stuff do you want in your kitchen?

The other thing is that whilst I could squeeze stuff into a corner and have it looking adequate, this is a M house I'm paying the mortgage on, so I want to get it looking something special if I'm to do anything at all (and I'm not happy with it as it presently is so ....)

I'm presently thinking of getting someone to shift the door to the utility room so it's more central on the end wall. That's give me a bit better layout to play with, but seems a bit drastic though. If I do that then I could conceivably put the cooker on the external wall near to it, although dependig on the size cooker it doesn't leave a lot either side.

Ho hum....

Hangovers only happen when you have too much alcohol in your bru-stream, drinking more bru balances it out and then you're fine.
