Just to clarify, it is the place where I spend most of my posting time but it isn't really "my place" in terms of ownership or any real power besides editing posts in the sports and games subforums. I personally would love more crossover. Especially people willing to not be invisible... :D

I believe registration is still selective- you have to ask to have an account activated. It used to be invite-only (it might still be).

Funkodrom

At least I'm consistent. Did I refuse to check it out on principle? Why is it secret?

I think I vaguely remember now. That's a long time ago!

The Mad Monk
21-02-2005, 23:22:47
It was (is?) a secret in part because some of the members are current and former mods on other fora, and wanted a place to kick back without getting hassled (like Ming was getting hassled here), in part because some members work in "sensitive" positions and wanted to vent without worry, and in part because having a genuine secret clubhouse is really, really cool.

Sir Penguin
22-02-2005, 02:00:41
It's also secret because they didn't want all the 12-year-olds and other jackasses following them from other forums, and because some people there post personal stuff.

Funko, if you register they'll activate your account. K_G, Drekkus, and Mr. G are all registered, too, but they never post. :)

OK the reasons make sense.

I guess the problem is if you only get people that you selectively invite it feels a bit elitist. Like, maybe I'll be activated if I applied but maybe not everyone who posts here would be. And could I be comfortable posting somewhere I knew they wouldn't let some of my contemporaries in?

It feels a bit like going to a bar with a dress code. I hate that.

It's also selective registration because there is an adult material subforum (which gentle users can decide they don't want access to), but no under 18 memberships are allowed. The server is in the USA.

You don't like the concept of beer?! Ban him!
