View Full Version : SPAM REVIEW: Don't Rock the Goat

Today's spamming, though not perfect, was the best this site has seen. It had everything. The spammers even went to the trouble of writing content at first, and that is greatly appreciated. The rest was a C&P job, but we can't blame them for that. It's tough to come up with fresh material, and really, the focus of their effort was thread titles.

High Point: At the peak of the thread-posting period, some excellent thread titles were made. I enjoyed the goat puns.

Low Point: When Necromantik started posting threads, they seemed pretty crummy. They grew on me, though.

Scores:

Originality: Goats have been the generic fallback for this sort of thing for too many years. However, the word "goat" was used in an original way, and for that, I have to give credit. 3/6

Thoughtfulness: These people made a lot of high-quality song and movie name spoofs very quickly. I am highly impressed. 6/6

Effects: A lot of the effects were repeated, but the images used were generally high quality and topical. 4/6

Content: At first, I assumed that Necromantik was just making a fool of himself by posting about how he pwnd the forum and how great he was. It seemed like egotistical, self-centred claptrap. But as the plot progressed, I found these threads to be the most intriguing. I'm not sure if it was an intended effect, but either way, I give it 5/6.

Acting: Not a lot was demaded of the cast. What they delivered was believable though, and I found myself only looking at the clock to see how many threads they had squeezed into a minute. 4/6

Staying Power: The spammers managed 6 pages of new threads, and a couple more pages of bumped threads. However, as of 9:00 PM Pacific, they seem to have given up. 4/6

Overall: Bravo! I appreciate the time and effort these gentlemen put into our forum. Aside from some minor issues with the originality, and the one poster's slow plot evolution, this was a great time had by all. Don't Rock the Goats deserves the full 6/6.

In total, this spamming receives 32/42.

i concur. it seems like a lot of thought was put into this. perhaps we as a community might take this as inspiriation and invade other forums on the weekend.

Although I have to say, it would have been nice if they had put a few witty lines into each thread -- you know, something that could tempt us to actually open them...:(

As it is, we'll just have to add our own! :)

On the contrary, I liked how I didn't have to open the threads. It really streamlined the process, and magnified my enjoyment.

The pure doggedness of what appears to be a mere three posters is admirable. Has anyone found any repeats?

No, but I haven't given it more then a passing look.

Good analysis, SP. But you should have taken into account the staying factor, or the impact, energy put in vs. 'ah, ok, let's move on'. When I came here this morning I spent a whole 5 minutes scrolling through the six pages of goatthreads, then shrugged and went on with my business. So I'm not sure if their investment payed off.

The summary sums it up pretty well, but I think the scores are a little on the generous side.

Can this be front-paged?

SP vastly overrated them. I mean they were repetitive.

yah

I would get bored far before I would have filled 6 pages

I mean, I really had to press myself to be a pornbot for a whole page

I had originally intended to roleplay longer, but it was just soooo boring...
