But the statement here gives me reason for concern. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4270241.stm)uses idle computer time to help solve serious health and social problems. It was the comment on social problems. Behind a screen that appears to be working on something for the good of mankind, how do I know that it isn't calculating some social manipulation scenarios for the authorities to impose ?

Can people trust those in authority ? My continuing experience of politicians / government suggests not. We may just be contibuting to our own control.

SETI was a good trial but you should probably use one of those medical research ones indstead now. Basically the SETI thing is a pointless waste of time - although it was a good proof of the technology - but some of the other ones are genuinely useful.
