Ok, so the friend I have claimed floor space off has a small dilemna.

Her computer has done....something...and no longer works. Apparently the university would like her to do some work. ASAP. Do I offer her my wondeful hassle free laptop so she can get it done?

Or do I ignore her ranting, crying, and pacing the room panicking about failing?

Or, scariest of all, do I respond to her pleas of help fixing it? Bearing in mind I fall very, very short of the computing genius she has built me into?

Of course I'm hesitating!!

If I touch her computer I will almost certainly do irreversible damage. If I give her mine.....well, I'll have to stop browsing the net all night, and she'll probably manage to fuck mine up too.

I am of course grateful she is letting me stay with her for so long....but.....its my computer! This thing is my life!!!!

It is. My life outside my computer is:

-no house
-family who have disowned me
-job for 3 days a week serving beer to fat goths while my eardrums get split

It's all I have:p

I'd do it just because unless a friend abuses your trust you must help if you can. You can make the world a better place by helping your friends and you'll find your friends will be more willing to help you when the time comes. It's like karma.

You'd be amazed what there is outside the house to do. She is accommodating you, the very least you can do is let her borrow your laptop for a bit. I wouldn't see a single dilemma if her neck was on the line...

Hmmm....ok, you people may have a point. Maybe. I'll give her a few hours - I suppose I have def outstayed my welcome here, and need to stick around even longer if I want to keep this job so......ok, I give in. But if someone starts making coherant and non selfish posts here, you'll know she stole my log-in ;)

Why not let her borrow your laptop WHILE you fix her PC ?

And don't forget to download 500M of inter-species porn on it before handing it back saying, "Sorry can't fix it, have to take it to PC World" ;)

Get earplugs for your job. Not only do they stop your eardrums getting split but you can actually hear what people are saying better - bizarrely.
