My motherboard died. Second one in two years. Bastards. I just spend over 500 euros on pc stuff, and now I have to go get another board as well. But i think I will do a proper upgrade then:

AMD64 754 ASUS K8V AGP 8X looks good.
And upgrade my memory to 1024 mb. I now have 512, ddr 266 mhz, so I would like to upgrade from there, getting an extra 512 in stead of 1024 mb.

Questions:
* Is the mentioned motherboard any good? What do you recommend?
* Is 1024 mb of 266 mhz memory much slower than 1024 mb of 400 mhz?
* What AMD 64 chip has the best value for money at the moment?

I've got a similair board but with the ALi Chipset. I've had no problems at all and I've had it for about 4 years.

The K8V is good, it's what I use.

And yes, 1024 of 266 is much slower than 1024 of 400.

And the best value is up to you... :)

I'm wondering if I maybe should get a 939 platform motherboard. No idea if it's any better, but if I'm to upgrade, i should get something that will last some time. Possible with an athlon 64 3200 and 1024 mb 400 mhz.
That's another 450 euro.

We don't know if AMD is going to be putting their dual core CPUs on Socket 939 or a new socket, so it's pretty much up in the air as to whether or not there's any point in getting 939. I would though, since it's a bigger number and therefore must be more powerful.

Well, I did get the Asus A8V Deluxe, an AMD 64 3200 and 512 mb pc3200 400 mhz, probably upgrade it to 1024 next month.
