View Full Version : Theoretical future CG meetings - NewYork/DC and Rotterdam

So...

I'm thinking about maybe going to New York/DC sometime this year and we talked to Drekkus and Miester g about maybe going to Rotterdam in October.

I believe Venom was considering bringing his hammer to the UK sometime this year so maybe could combine that with a trip to the land of the giants.

May or June could work.

I'm hoping have a house north and/or west of the DC area by the end of March. I'll have to start campaigning for a party. :)

I'll make sure my wife doesn't see the pictures from this last meet. She thinks Drekkus is cute, so I could tell her he *might* be visiting.

June 12 - 18 is bad because we're going to the beach at Nag's Head that week.

I would say May or June would be fine for NYC. May might even be better b/c the schools are not out yet. That's probably less of an issue for NYC than DC, though.

Like I told you guys, at these exchange rates, beer is practically free over here now. :D

May/June will be problematic for me, though I could probably still swing it. My sister gets married May 7 and my friend (ok, fine, a guy I know who hurts people for me) is getting married in June. I'm in both weddings so I'll have to plan carefully to go to DC or NY.

May is impossible for me, but rest of the summer probably too.

The meeting just got better.

Lazarus and the Gimp
31-01-2005, 18:13:05
Seeing as Mrs Gimp will be on maternity leave over the summer (so no weekend working) my chances of making a UK meet are much improved. I'm not sure the budget will stretch to a foreign meet, because we'll be broke.

HelloKitty
31-01-2005, 18:13:39
May be a good time to "visit my parents" this summer since Erin won't have any vacation time at all.

Why are you thinking of DC when you could go to NY though?

Lurker
31-01-2005, 18:19:20
My thoughts, too.

Anyway Drekkus, in my humble opinion, I think you can get better beer here in general than what I typically got in London pubs. That's not to say most of the beer isn't crappy, just that it's easier to find a choice selection among the riffraff.

Venom

I was there last a week and a half ago. The skiing was good, the beer decent, and the girls were cutties. It didn't even rain most of the time.

As nice as it was I've been there, done that, and already bought the t-shirt (I'm wearing it now actually). Besides our old world friends would have to pay twice as much to fly to the west coast as to the east coast.

I can do the time frame, not sure I can do the cost though :(

Oerdin
01-02-2005, 13:36:42
Hell, the pound is strong against the dollar and the airlines are going bankrupt because there is so much over capacity. That means tickets should be cheap then once you get here everything will be like 50% off compared to British prices.

Funkodrom
01-02-2005, 13:38:16
Prices seem to be double what they are now for those dates!!!

They are miles cheaper in March/April. Do you think that's just because the dates are further away?

miester gandertak
01-02-2005, 13:39:48
inflation

Venom
01-02-2005, 13:41:25
It's summer time. Summer time rates are higher.

Oerdin
01-02-2005, 13:44:47
It's all the same to me since I'll just be using airline miles on my ticket. Price in not an object. ;)

Funkodrom
01-02-2005, 13:44:53
337 is the cheapest I've found so far by playing around with dates... bit more than I was hoping. :(

That's to NY, to DC is about 20 more

Venom
01-02-2005, 13:48:13
Shit, I'm driving to DC. Flying is for the birds. I'm so funny.

Oerdin
01-02-2005, 13:49:13
There will be a price war between then and now. There always is especially since the government has been bailing out the dying airlines to keep them flying.

Funkodrom
01-02-2005, 13:49:45
I might have to play it by ear and maybe book in a couple of months then.

Venom
01-02-2005, 13:52:34
In the meantime I've begun laying the plans for October. Is any time better or worse than any other?

Funkodrom
01-02-2005, 13:53:31
Not really I don't think.

Venom

zmama
01-02-2005, 13:58:59
October is good for me too. The airfares are cheap then. Not as cheap as January, but the discount sales will start about July for the fall in Europe.

Funkodrom
01-02-2005, 14:00:31
When will the discount sales start for May/June in the US?

Venom
01-02-2005, 14:03:58
Probably never. Pray for airline bankruptcy.

zmama
01-02-2005, 14:04:47
If there are gonna be good prices, probably March
