View Full Version : Motherboard battery? Or aliens?

Every so often I find that my system clock has been set to December 12, 2004. The time stays correct, just the date's off. I thought it might be my motherboard battery running low, but that doesn't seem right to me. For one thing, the motherboard is only 3 years old. For another, it's happened twice since my last reboot. For another, I would think that the date would be reset to January 1, 2001 at midnight if the battery was cutting out. Am I right?

AVG and AdAware report nothing, which isn't surprising since I never get viruses or spyware anyway. That doesn't preclude it from being a virus or spyware, of course. Any other tips?

Have a quick check with spybot to see if these little buggers are there...

One BDE Projecter.. One DSO Exploit

They didn't show up on AVG or AdAware..

Good call. I don't even remember the last time I used IE.

No dice, it just reset back to December 12.

This is the least stable install of XP I've ever had. I think it must be infected with something. Whever I click on the Start menu, it says "New Programs Installed", thinking that I haven't run the AVG Control Panel app yet. Which I have.
