View Full Version : Lurker - and anyone who fancies a drink in London tonight

Funkodrom

So I got a call from Lurker last night.

Apparently his hotel is a bit further from the tube than we thought... so he said we'd meet in a pub that's closer...

It's on Earl's Court Road - and he remembered that it had Teck somewhere in the title!!!

Thank goodness for Google.

Anyway, I'll be at The Prince of Teck at 161 Earls Court Road at about 7:15-7:30 pm this evening to meet Lurker. Then heading to Covent Garden to meet Tizzy and Nav.

If anyone else wants to join us?

Drekkus

Sounds pretty tecky to me.

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 10:22:06
Actually he did give me slightly better instructions than that.

Tizzy
28-01-2005, 10:31:51
Warning for anyone coming along:
I am (hopefully) leaving work early to go out tonight and will probably be a rather tipsy Tizzy by the time others show up

Silly names, both the street and the pub.

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 10:55:30
Earls Court road is so called because it's the road where Earls Court is, what's silly about that?

Drekkus
28-01-2005, 11:02:15
It's just too long, too many werds. How the hell can you remember meeting at the Prince of Teck at the Earls court road.

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 11:03:53
Earl's Court Road is easy 'cause I've known for ages that he was staying by Earl's Court and the Prince of Teck is unusual enough to be memorable.

and the 161 I remembered because it's a memorable number - symmetrical, two 1s, 3rd highest finish in darts...

hmm let's find a dutch address:

Complex Woudestein
Burgemeester Oudlaan 50

oh yeah, that's much easier

Where the hell is Teck and who was the Prince of it?

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 11:13:36
I hope when I get there I find out The Prince of Teck was Dutch.

Hmmm...our names in Portland all seem pretty pedestrian.

Elephant and Castle
Irish Bank Bar and Restaurant
Kell's Irish Pub
Kelly's Olympian
Paddy's
Tir-Na-Nog Irish Pub
Duffy's Irish Pub
Biddy McGraw's Pub
The Horse Brass Pub
Rose and Raindrop Restaurant and Pub
The Dublin Pub
Fox and Firkin Pub

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 11:17:49

Lot of Irish (and a few English) in Portland?

BigGameHunter
28-01-2005, 11:20:17
Yeah...I think the perpetual rain and gloom, coupled with poor fashion taste and painful politeness is a big draw.

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 11:22:03
Sounds just like home.

Yeah...you could come here and probably never know you've left. The only thing that would be different is you'd probably get laid a lot on account of your hip accent.

Plus, we have 18.5 million bands in a city of just over a million.

Here...you decide:
Portland Oregon's largest city is encircled by vast forests, dominated by
ancient volcanoes and situated at the confluence of two great rivers - the
Columbia and the Willamette. It's a cosmopolitan settlement with an
easy-going, can-do spirit and a small-town ambience, despite a population of
1.5 million. Perennially near the top of the USA's `most livable cities'
list, Portland is known nationally for its progressive politics, relaxed
pace and its love of the outdoors and the environment. Downtown Portland is
an urban success story - vital, bustling, tree-filled and gregarious. A cap
on building height has kept even the most modern areas human-sized and
comfortably proportioned and plenty of the architecture is extremely
innovative. Northwest is the trendiest district, with plenty of boutiques,
galleries, great coffeehouses, and those famous brewpubs; the funkiest
neighborhoods are in the inner Southeast where `alternative' has become
almost mainstream. Portland's highlights include the Old Town, an
ungentrified area of 1890s architectural gems that has become popular in
recent years as a movie set for period dramas; Portland's Chinatown which
has been thriving since the 1880s; the carnival atmosphere at the huge
weekend Saturday market near the lovely Skidmore Fountain; the Oregon
Maritime Center and Museum which charts Portland's long history as a seaport
and shipbuilding center; the Portland Art Museum's exhibit of Northwest
Native Indian carvings; and the country's only showcase devoted to the art
of promotion - the American Advertising Museum.

I can get laid a lot here. :D

BigGameHunter
28-01-2005, 11:50:03
Huh..didn't know your accent was anything remarkable over there.

Hey--do American guys get any extra attention for accents? Seems women are suckers for an accent...

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 11:51:02
I don't know. I quite like girls with accents different to mine, I find some US accents sexy - others less so.

BigGameHunter
28-01-2005, 11:52:57
We don't have accents in the Pacific Northwest. We all sound like newscasters.

I've always thought a Southern accent was very alluring. That and pig tails.

Funkodrom
28-01-2005, 11:54:55
That's your perspective. All Americans have accents, you just have different ones.

I don't have an accent. ;)

Drekkus
28-01-2005, 11:55:25
What's so sexy about a pig's tail?

Provost Harrison

Depends on the accent.
I find though that after a while I stop noticing people's accents - if I've known someone for a while, I don't hear their accent anymore, but if someone I didn't know with a similar accent was to say something to me, I'd notice that.

Damn I got drunk last night. Probably a good thing the pubs close when they do (although I wasn't happy about it last night).

Anyway, see some of you tonight.

I was alone, but I did find myself engaged in some crazy brit folk conversations.

One observation of note: There's a lot of cleavage on display, considering its January.

Off to the museum now.

we called "cleavage rich" - "meat market" when I lived in Ohio.

Strangely appropriate for Ohio.
