Take Two has been revealed as the buyer of Civ license. Takes over distributing all current Firaxis products, including SMAC and SMACAX. Has rights to Civ 4 as well as future Civ products and first dibs on all other Firaxis projects.

They were just waiting to announce it until after they bought the rights to MLB games, so that they would get some name recognition. I think they'll end up being the Good Guys regardless of what they do, if they're taking on EA. It's pretty much can't-lose from the PR perspective.

I hope they got a discount.

SP, Take Two didn't buy the rights to MLB. They bought the rights to the PLAYER NAMES AND LIKENESS. The MLB license itself is still available.

I bet Firaxis requested T2 hold off on the announcement until Pirates! got done with it's contractual requirements. Who published and distributed Pirates! before Take Two took over? Atari?

Chris, thanks.

BTW, SP is now correct. Take Two has licensed all the available licenses for MLB. He was an oracle, and didn't know it. ;)
