Salaam Alaykoum!

Hey Guys,

Just got in after a camel ride in the desert around Aswan and off on a felucca down the Nile for the next three days (including Xmas!) in about an hour...

Won't go into too many details for risk of sounding like I'm boasting - but this place is awesome!!!

We'll be doing New Year's in Dahab and chilling there for a few days, so I'll get back to you then, Insh'allah!

Ma'a Salaama,

:smoke:

Hey, hey - currently on the waterfront in Luxor...

Xmas was fantastic, involving lazy days sailing and playing backgammon and boozy nights of beach parties around the fire and hitting the sheesha pipes...

I am totally knackered - though the temple of Karnak was awesome today!

4am start tomorrow morning with a donkey ride to the Valley of Kings...

Not liking the getting up early part - nosiree!:clueless:

Hope everyone else had a great christmas and santa got what you wanted!

Fizzy Headache!

(or at least that's what cheers sounds like in arabic!)

Ah, cruise down the nile. It is awesome! Do you hear the sound of the boat scraping along the river bed? Beware the low tide because there have been tales of the water being too shallow and the boat toppling over!

Don't worry it's rare. Are you going to the temple of Karnak?

Nah, I did the one at Philae near Aswan, which is apparently rated as the most tasteful of the sound and light shows - pretty cool actually!

Just spent the last few days in Dahab on the Red Sea, including New Year's (hic!) and did a dive this afternoon - fuckin A!!!:)

Back to Cairo tomorrow for some bellydancing and stuff before heading into the Western Desert...

Did you organise the trip yourself? I'd like to go to Egypt but I have a thing against package holidays where you have to hang out with other Brits. On the other hand a trip to Egypt sounds like it needs loads of planning.

Hmm. What did you do?

Oh, and pictures? :)

I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to hang out with Brits either.

Actually this was one of those adventure tour things and yes it is something I usually try to shy away from but for such a huge undertaking as this was and the fact that going to an arabic country is such a big culture shock with language and not even being able to read street signs etc, we thought we'd try it out...

The group we picked was Imaginative Traveller (http://www.imaginative-traveller.com/index.asp) and on the whole the tour was excellent!

There were 17 of us, 6 Brits, 6 Aussies, 4 Kiwis and 1 American with a male/female ratio of 6:11 and a max age of 39 (I think I was 3rd oldest! )

There is NO WAY we could have done so much in so little time and probably as cheaply as we did.

The only gripes we had was perhaps not spending as much as we'd liked in places like Aswan, Luxor and Alexandria - but that was relatively minor compared to everything we did do...

The tour we did was Nile and Beyond (http://www.imaginative-traveller.com/destinations/africa/itinerary.asp?country=8&code=EANB)

As for pictures, I took over 2,000 of them - are you SURE you want to see them...!?:smoke:
