This will probably make people hate me even more - but what the hell.

Is it me or does Elton John keep writing the same song over and over again? All his songs sound exactly the same and exactly as shit as the last.

Has he ever written a song that isn't shit?

Yes. "Rocket man". Apart from that, the "Elton John" songs that stick out were largely down to a great lyric by Bernie Taupin.

Rocket Man was great.

I also like Tiny Dancer, if only for the piano. Maybe because it's one of the songs I learned to play as a kid and the piano part just sounds nice on its own.

I like "Burn down the Mission", yes that's largely because of the lyrics, but the music is good on that too

He's written somewhere in the region of 40 albums. You would have thought he'd have some amazing songs amongst that lot.

I'm not a fan of Rocket Man. I'll keep an open mind and open ears on him guess.

You sort of have to respect him if only for the amount of music he's written and the amount of cash he's made.

He has quite a few good tunes, mostly from the 70s, though you kind of have to remember that when he wrote them he hadn't yet written millions of virtually identical bland ballads. Anyway off the top of my head I quite like Tiny Dancer, Benny and the Jets, Mona Lisa and the Madhatters (I think it's called that...), Elderberry Wine, er probably some others... I quite like Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting and Rocket Man though they're a bit 80s and overblown.... Anyway, none of these songs are gonna convert you 'cos they basically sound the same as all his others, just a bit better...

I think it's funeal for a friend that I like. Is that the really rock n' roll one? Dreamtheatre did an excellent cover opf an excellent Elton John song.

Never forget candle in the wind. Never forget Diana

Ah yes Funeral for a Friend (love lies bleeding) is a mint song.

Hmm, just thought of another...the infamous

"Don't let my son, go down on me"

Asher

Or "Hold me closer, Tony Danza"

The raging queen actually gives very good concert. I saw him once, wasn't expecting to like it and came away impressed.
Didn't make me buy any of his cds though ;)

My friend went to see him play on Friday night and spent at least half of last night raving about it :)

We should run some sort of PHd league table to work out whether Rich, Keith or MOBIUS is the champion.
