I wish, I wish, I wish you’d care

I posted it because I really like it, every time it comes round it makes me grin and it's brilliantly delivered and it was what came into my head when I read the thread.

Nothing to do with you.

"It's about fucking this bitch and that bitch, but not the bitch with the seven day itch like that ho, she says "come and meet the pussy" She says she wants to do it like a doggy - she's bad, nobody is badder - but she got more crabs than a sea-food platter!"

Well I thought about the army
Dad said "Son, you're fucking high"
And I thought "Yeah there's a first for everything"
So I took my old man's advice...

Hang on to the thought of all the rays I've caught
The moon dust while the summer sun confuses me
Time for she to make me free

do you remember British achievement, and living when times were good?
watching the start of the end of an era, would you go back if you could?
when I was younger, the smell of the hunger, in all of the music you played
kept me believing you lived for the lifestyle and not just the cash to be made

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

You have never been in love
until you've seen the dawn rise
behind the home for the blind

from First of the Gang to Die by Morrissey, and a beautiful, artful image it is too

Ms. Jones taught me english, but I think I just shot her son
Cause he owed me money, with a bullet in the chest you cannot run...
Now he’s bleeding in a vacant lot
The one in the summer where we used to smoke pot
I guess I didn’t mean it
But man you shoulda seen it
His flesh explode

We are gathered here today
To take photos of the President
Pretending to mourn these brave young men
Who came home from Beirut
Gift-wrapped in body bags
A truck bomb blew them to bits

We knew they were sitting ducks
We sacrificed 'em, Aztec style
So we could use their dead meat
To cook up war fever back home

O My O My
What a wretched life
I was born on the day
That my poor mother died
I was cut from her belly
With a stanley knife
My daddy did a jig
With the drunk midwife

That one also feature the line that basically sums up Nick Cave's entire career-

Angel

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

Just the whole damn song. I feel that way, sometimes.

My fave at the moment comes from an old The THe song, "Heartland", which is essentially about the "Americanisation" of the UK and ends with the repeated "This is the 51st State of the USA". But the last line before that kicks in just says it all:

"And watch all the bankers get hot under the collar
As the pound in our pocket turns into a dollar"

Great stuff

Winter sounds the crying
Like an old man slowly dying
And the only sound, the wind that fills the trees
Even colder comes the moon
And though it never seems too soon
A sudden stillness as the rainfall starts to freeze

(chorus)
I'm mr blue
I'm here to stay with you
And no matter what you do
When you're lonely - I'll be lonely too

or, alternately,

Saint Stephen with a rose, in and out of the garden he goes,
Country garden in the wind and the rain,
Wherever he goes the people all complain.

Stephen prospered in his time, well he may and he may decline.
Did it matter, does it now? Stephen would answer if he only knew
how.
Wishing well with a golden bell, bucket hanging clear to hell,
Hell halfway twixt now and then,
Stephen fill it up and lower down and lower down again.

Lady finger, dipped in moonlight, writing "What for?" across the
morning sky.
Sunlight splatters, dawn with answer, darkness shrugs and bids
the day goodbye.

Speeding arrow, sharp and narrow,
What a lot of fleeting matters you have spurned.
Several seasons with their treasons,
Wrap the babe in scarlet colors, call it your own.
Did he doubt or did he try? Answers aplenty in the bye and bye,
Talk about your plenty, talk about your ills,
One man gathers what another man spills.

Saint Stephen will remain, all he's lost he shall regain,
Seashore washed by the suds and foam,
Been here so long, he's got to calling it home.

Fortune comes a crawlin', calliope woman, spinnin' that curious
sense of your own.
Can you answer? Yes I can. But what would be the answer to the
answer man?

or, even better....

Boots were of leather, a breath of cologne
the mirror was a window she sat by alone.
All around the garden grew scarlet and purple and crimson and blue.
She came dead and she went, and at last went away, the garden was sealed when the
flowers decayed.
On the wall of the garden a legend did say, no one may come here since no one may
stay.

but this one really got my attention...

I saw a newspaper picture from the political campaign
A woman was kissing a child, who was obviously in pain
She spills with compassion, as that young child's
face in her hands she grips
Can you imagine all that greed and avarice
coming down on that child's lips
