I thought there already was a Reading band called Rebus. Isn't it confusing that protein named his new band the same thing? :clueless:

I want some sort of flow chart.

It's the same Rebus, I think Rob's their 6th drummer.

Can you make a list of all former SUM members and what bands they're playing in now? It'd make the CG experience smoother.

Proper Sonic Undermind members:

Rob (drums): now with Rebus
Michael H (rhythm guitar): Just formed some new band. As yet unnamed as far as I know
Sam (bass): Also in Mike's new band.
Nikhil (lead guitar): Apparently in some crazy duel lead guitar duo. Nothing will come of it.
Pete (voice): Sings/guitar in Pete & the Pirates.

Briefly members of Sonic Undermind:

Phil: Nothing currently, though hopefull back on the karaoke circuit soon...
Michael M (me): Bass in The Palestinians.

In terms of bands I reckon that's about right. I'm still doing a load of other stuff too. That musical based on the life of the man who invented cheese, the score for a new silent movie about kids with tourette's...

Unnamed is a shit name for a band

Lazarus and the Gimp

They should name themselves "Sam and the Spastics".

I remember Sam saying something like "I really hope this band is not comedy metal". But they have AK saying "it's great to be in an unashamed comedy metal band".

I see trouble ahead...

Seriously though, I'd like to see Funko and Sam as the musical driving force. Although Mike calls himself metal he usually comes up with some excellent guitar parts. See Chimpcopter, Painless and Helix for example. I'd hate to see them wasting their talents on E & F overdistorted powerchord combinations.

Is there a flowchart anywhere which shows the rest of the incestuously close-knit Reading music scene? Of the dozen bands I've heard named, I'm convinced there's only been about a dozen people in them, playing the musical equivalent of musical chairs.

If we include who Mike's reviewed and I've recorded we'd need some sort of clever 3D flowchart.

colour-co-ordination should work.

Surely by it's very nature, musical chairs is musical ;)

I've just re-read my posts and they come off as a bit rude. I didn't mean them to be. I was trying to say that Mike was a talented bastard but it came out all wrong. ach!

i don't know how to make an umlaut character :(

how the fuck does that work?

if i hold down alt and type 0252 nothing happens

Don't worry, it's all good. I think everyone's enjoying the music we're playing and it's certainly not out and out metal, it does rock very hard though. Don't forget that AK though that SU were one of the greatest metal bands around. The only potential problems were terminology ones but no-one seems to care about that in the new band which is cool. It's only labels after all.

I've written the basis for the first two songs, Sam, AK and Iain all added loads of really good stuff and AK's very pleased not to be playing the stuff that he was in the Niner.

I don't think I've ever 'called myself metal' - certainly not in terms of what I write - but it's not a term I would fear or be ashamed of.

Oh and I don't think I wrote any of the music for Chimpcopter, that was mainly Nikhil and Sam's work. :)

Nah, you came up with the first chords then we jammed it with Debaser. Then I taught Sam what I thought the bassline should be. Then the guitar part was a copy of the bass part.

oh and müf is a wicked name. Is it still pronounced the same? or is it like moof or meuf or something?

Funkodrom
18-10-2004, 09:42:23
It's pronounced a bit like meurf So smüf would be a bit like smurf.

MoSe
18-10-2004, 10:44:51
muif?

I thought it had been decided in Hamburg that next CG band had to be named "wee spade east ass"...
...or Derrington...

Luckily I wasn't in Hamburg.

In that case müf is still the coolest. Smüf is trying to be funny and doesn't look cool written down, plus there's the trying to explain that your name isn't actually "smurf" all the time. "Merf" sounds cool and the look of müf reminds me of düff beer.

Funkodrom
18-10-2004, 11:53:29
Yeah, I think so too. Smüf was funny when we were really pissed on Saturday.

King_Ghidra
18-10-2004, 12:21:36
my fault, i think i liked the idea of seeing mike wander on stage and say 'hello, we are smurf'

i do actually like müf, but i forgot to ask - does it mean something?

Debaser
18-10-2004, 12:39:00
Isn't it just supposed to be a badly spelt reference to a ladies hot silk pocket?

Funkodrom
18-10-2004, 12:40:08
Not as far as I know! It just sounds good and has an umlaut which makes it rock.

Provost Harrison

He's the guitarist in müf. The one in the gold lamé suit.
