View Full Version : It now takes ages to load a list of threads...

Eg. Go to the forums, click Counterpoint, it takes forever to load. I'm sure this happenned before but I can't remember why.

You are on 56K?

Funkodrom
05-10-2004, 08:22:34
Nope. It's not the actual loading it's the wait before the data starts transferring.

I think disabling the search function might fix it... :nervous:

Yeah, since the move, CG runs like a dog for me.

I haven't noticed a difference but I probably have the slowest connection. :(

I'm not complaining, I'm just providing information.

Oh, who am I kidding? I'm complaining.

You really shouldn't talk about yourself like that. That's my job!

I sometimes have that problem when going into a thread, no data transfer for a few seconds.

I don't notice a difference. :)

That's because you're an idiot.

No guessing about it.

Bump.

This is still an issue (as mentioned at the CG meet).

Once things start loading it's lightning fast but when you try and load the thread list on Counterpoint (but to some extent all the forums) it takes hours.

It's annoying 'cause I have to load the thread list and then right click to open the threads in a new tab etc. and limit refreshing the thread list as much as possible.

I'm on a 56k connection and it always works fine for me. A little slow of course, but nothing one wouldn't expect on dial-up. I must be special.

Funkodrom

Ok, just did a test.

On a 2 Meg link at work it takes 19 seconds from my initial request before it starts loading the thread list. And (with new speedier Firefox) about .5 seconds to download and draw the page.

My connection is as responsive as usual.

As I said before funko this problem only seems to affect you!

19 Seconds sounds like a problem with your internet connection, it takes maybe a max 2 or 3 when I click on on Counterpoint.

Funkodrom

Every other site is lightning fast and it only started when the archive came back online.

Oh well. :(

Excellent, the subject suspects nothing.

Good work. Proceed with stage 2.

Funny thing... with my new ID it's suddenly blisteringly fast again. Wonder if it's something to do with post count?

Venom
25-02-2005, 19:31:03
That would explain why it's only slow for me and you.

Lurker

Nah, it's IQ related.

counterpoint also loads slow for me. No 19 seconds, but at least 8-9 seconds.

Venom
26-02-2005, 18:13:51
See, that's the top 3 right there. It is the post count. Drekkus, you should post less, just to be sure.

Another bit of forum science - solved!

Drekkus
28-02-2005, 11:33:47
The management should solve this. Just check the first two or three pages for threads read, in stead of 27,000 threads. Is that possible?

Venom

It probably has some terrible side effect. Like breaking the search function. Everything breaks the god damn search function.

I confess amazement that the collective idiots of this forum could figure out what was causing that problem.

They couldn't. I worked it out though.

According to that, if they have figured it out on another forum, their collective knowledge field will spread around the world and suddenly other fora will figure it out for themselves more easily.
