My the pc is in the livingroom, to everybodies content. But it makes too much noise. So I want to silence it, but don't know where to begin. I don't know if the noise is coming from the power supply, the cpu or the videocard. So maybe a silent casing (including silent power supply) is an option?

How have others done this?

Yes, it's an option but a cheaper one may be to open your case and listen to the different fans. It may be enough to replace your cpu fan with a quieter one. I'd start there... if that doesn't do it then the quiet case/ powersupply

If you hold the biggest round button on the front of the tower in for about 10 seconds the computer should become a lot quieter.

Actually, it's 5 seconds for an ATX case. :) Alternatively, you can just press the button and wait for a while until the computer becomes quieter itself. That method is safer than holding the button in for 5 seconds.

Drekkus, it's probably either your CPU fan or your video card fan. If it's being louder than it used to, then it's time to replace that fan anyway. It's pretty easy to replace fans, but there are a few things you need to think about. I'm sure someone can post instructions if you want.

Well, I need an extra HD. And I'm not sure if my 300 watt power supply can handle it, so I'm thinking about renewing that as well. So I'm not sure if new fans and a new power supply will be cheaper than a new, silent case with power supply.

If your harddrive is quite old it might be that as well. I'm using my old one till I purchase another and it is so loud I had to sleep in another room last-night!

You'll have to price compare...last time I looked the ultra quiet cases were quite expensive. But I haven't looked in about a year or so.
