View Full Version : Shining1 or Mad Monk

I have a question regarding DiabloII ... I figured either one of you guys would know. I just started playing again using a Sorcerer and I was awarded a Hireling in the first act by Kashaya. What I wanted to know was.... during battles, does the hireling gain all the experience points herself from the ones it kills and I gain only experience points from whom I kill? Or do we split the points evenly from all kills between us? Or do we both get a full amount of points for each kill no matter who does the killing?

What I am getting at is ... does the hireling actually potentially take points away from me that I may be getting if I were to go it alone? Could I be getting to higher levels faster without using one, by getting all the points from kills for myself?

I haven't played in so long and I can't recall how it works and besides, last time I played through, I was a Barbarian and used no one, and finished the game at like a level 68, 69 or 70. Seems to me it is taking longer to go up in levels with the Sorceress.

Just wondering........ thanks. :)

It's better than that -- for you, anyway.

You get 100% of the full value (for your level) of your hireling's kills -- even if the hireling dosen't..

For example, if your 3rd level rogue actually strikes the killing blow on Andariel, she probably will get nothing for it, because her level is too low. Your twelth level sorcie, on the other hand, will still get full xp from Andy.

Hirelings get full value (adjusted by their level, of course) for critters they kill themselves, one third value (IIRC) for kills you or your other minions make, and NO value for kills by other players or their minions.

I vote for Mad Monk. While there's nothing wrong with Shiney, he just posts too little these days.

Thanks MM... btw, I didn't know you were up for election? Who's your running mate?

Mad Monk is the correct choice for this kind of answer, of course. =)

Just be careful with your hireling, Tom. If they die, and you carry on fighting for an age without them, it's very hard to get them leveling again. The monster level must be appropriate to the hireling's level for them to earn XP to keep pace with you. This is particularly true at the start, where you can gain 10 levels without blinking.

Thanks guys. And Ned, when my hireling dies, I immediately go up top and ressurect them. And they only die if I get killed.... twice so far because I wasn't paying attention.

BTW... which one of you nazi bastards moved this thread. If I wanted to post it in the games section, I would have. Leave my posting alone, buttheads. I am a nonconformist disobedient protesting radical old timer hippy prick bastard. :-P~~ Put it back where I had it for the most exposure and for where I almost always only check.... Counterpoint. Fags. (Sorry Asher.... no intent there , :D ) (Kidding again with that remark as well... can't help it, I'm also an asshole. :D )

Now now, CG was founded on the principle that there was no guarantee the mods weren't going to act like unreasonable assholes with no warning:D.

We had the whole ghetto vs. slums arguement already, Tom... :(
