...So you can woo the governor's daughter with your dance moves? But I imagine it's not like Dance Dance Revolution. It's actually knowing the minuet.

Briggs: Well, it's interesting that you bring that up because you can minuet which comes with the game, and you can dance in four-four time as well. You do that with other dancers on the dance floor, and the governor's daughter is giving you subtle hints on which way you should move, and when you should do a twirl, and you have to do it just right or she doesn't like you much at the end of the dance.

David Lawrence: Because you're uncultured. You're a privateer in need of a shower.

Briggs: She is looking for a privateer that smells good. But in the game you'll be able to download or to upload into the game any music file that you want and you can tap in a beat file. So, if you want your pirate to dance to Metallica you can do that. You don't see that happening a whole lot, but it might happen.

Oh no!
It's Theif meets The Sims meets Singles meets Leisure Suit Larry meets A Sail Full of Win meets Crossing the T meets Dance Dance Revolution meets Star Chamber meets ...

The way he describes it, it sounds like it isn't worth bothering with. He should learn to hype and not discourage...

03-08-2004, 22:24:01
The scary thing is....that probably sounds like hype to him.

03-08-2004, 22:24:28
Yeah, what people want is really hyped-up games that turn out to be crap.

Who writes this shite anyway

GameSpy's own Sean "Spliff" Flinn to probe the minds of several industry insiders, developers, and publishers

Well, how he talks about it makes it sound like crap reheated, FP. That's my point. He's not coming across as excited about it... and if he isn't excited about it, why should anyone else get excited about it?

And a lot of it sounds like it was just tossed in "just because", rather then "it would be fun"! Look at MoO3... that's what happened to it.

Did that dino egg ever hatch? What was in it?

04-08-2004, 00:06:08
It was an eye, not an egg. For Sid Meyers Dinosaurs! But everyone at Firaxis told Sid it just totally suck, and go back to remaking his old games. So he did.

04-08-2004, 00:21:47
I just read the interview. What are they gonna do that wasn't done by the Monkey Island games?

04-08-2004, 00:35:59
I miss Jeff Briggs.

04-08-2004, 11:26:10
Yeah, its good to have a fat, juicy target for your spite. It brings everyone together as a community.

04-08-2004, 12:24:17
Indeed it did and could.

04-08-2004, 13:13:22
I plan on uploading the Ramones for the dance.

04-08-2004, 21:39:26
I was thinking about some classic Rage myself.

05-08-2004, 09:09:36
I'd be happy enough with the old pirates! that i had on my amiga. Time to do some illegal downloading...

05-08-2004, 09:38:37
I'm wondering if this is a good idea or not, although aware that at one point several years ago I could have concievably been considered one of the people suggesting a remake.

05-08-2004, 10:18:32
I'll wait for the game before panning it, Mikey.

The game was virtaully remade by ascalon as "Port Royale" (Pirate Hunter in the US) but it left out the sword play part.

This attempt looks like they want a lot of role playing, sort like an Errol Flynn pirate movie.

05-08-2004, 10:46:57
I don't believe I did pan it. I said I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not.

05-08-2004, 10:56:42
Port Royale was moderately good. If they basically copy that and throw in a few fun swordfights it'll be alright.

I wonder how kindly itäd take to something in, say, 7/8 beat.

06-08-2004, 19:32:51
I'll be living and dying in 3/4 time.

09-08-2004, 10:20:02
This may be interesting

09-08-2004, 14:50:30
Looks like they moved away from the 'pirate' theme, that looks more like a builder thing.

all the girls love a builder apparently......

10-08-2004, 14:40:13
Builders have money, so that becomes obvious.
