Amy Winehouse- Frank
Basement Jaxx- Kish Kash
Belle & Sebastian- Dear Catastrophe Waitress
Franz Ferdinand- Franz Ferdinand
Jamelia- Thank You
Joss Stone- The Soul Sessions
Keane- Hopes and Fears
Robert Wyatt- Cuckooland
Snow Patrol- Final Straw
The Streets- A Grand Don't Come for Free
Ty- Upwards
The Zutons- Who Killed...... The Zutons

I liked the Snow Patrol album, but I hope Robert Wyatt wins.

There's some startling omissions. I thought John Cale or Willis could have won it.

His single with the Irish squad wasn't bad.

Dunno. I'm in the music group of the student radio station which means I hear about a minute and a half of most new single releases, about 20 to 40 a week. After a while they tend to blend into each other I'm certain we've had at least two Zutons singes and an album, for instance, but I couldn't say what they sound like for the life of me. But I have heard them!

None of them were absolute standout tracks though, or I would have remembered them. :) British tracks that I've definately liked off those sessions include "Mass Destruction" by Faithless, "English Blood, Irish Heart" by Morrisey, "Wot do U Call It" by Wiley, "In a Cage (On Prozac)" by My Red Cell and "Formed a Band" by Art Brut, but none of those are featured here.

I've actually heard of all-but-one of the acts this year.

The Zutons sound almost exactly like The Coral.

Art Brut are wankers. They were supposed to be playing this little indie night I help promote, and had even got to the point where they had definately definately confirmed and i'd started to design the flyers. Then they pulled out without explanation. Then they asked to play again. We said no. Mwa ha ha. They aren't really wankers, but they annoyed me a bit.

So what happened to the classical and Jazz entries?

When it comes down to it I suppse I wouldn't mind if Basement Jaxx won. They won't though.

They realised that their tokenistic championing of those minority interest genres was not only patronising and pathetic, but also had an adverse effect on the credibility of the artists.

Whereas of course Dizzee Rascal winning it last year just made him bigger in the eyes of the diehard garage community. :)
