My computer has an on-board IDE controller with the typical primary/secondary setup, for a total of four drives.

If I installed an IDE controller PCI card, would it add another four drives, or would it just overide the controller on the motherboard?

BUT....make sure you have an adequate power supply. that many drives pulls a shit load of power when you boot

Thanks!

I just wanted to add one more (DVD player), but I'm already at four.

Hm. I've never tried any of those add-in controllers. Windows should be able to see the drives. As for booting from them, that's a matter for BIOS. I'll bet that the better BIOSes can boot from controller cards.

Well if he's just using for a dvd player...booting aint an issue

Mad Monk wants to add another drive to his computer, making five drives on his computer. The regular built in IDE is usually only four.
