View Full Version : Pop up problem

Every time I click on internet explorer now I get a couple of pop ups. If you let them fully load they try and install something on the computer. I don't have any dodgy cookies or any temp internet files so I think something else is telling my browser to open up these windows. My virus software spotted something trying to run from my downloaded program files.

I've done a virus check - nothing there

I've run spybot and it found nothing.

Should I delete my downloaded program files? Is that where Flash and everything is stored?

Check your "homepage" setting in internet options. It'll inevitably be wrong. Then update windows and explorer to the latest versions using windos update.

Homepage is fine.

I'll try the other thing tomorrow.

Still happening. Help. What's causing this?

Looks like one of the nastier spyware/virus thingies, but you said you ran a cleaner already. What spyware program did you run? Was the spyware library updated? Because some are better than others.

Run AdAware as well.

I used Spybot. I got rid of Adaware a while ago.

Spybot definitely won't get all of them. Especially one like this. I think this one is hiding in a dll somewhere. PestControl is a great scanner. Only problem is the demo version won't clean things for you. But at the very least you can run it and see all the shit on your machine. Then if you're a real man, you can clean the things manually.

I found the bastard. My virus scanner kindly told me where "RunnDLLasapp" was trying to redirect to and I went t their main site and found an uninstaller. It was something to do with computer games so it might have been one of these "free game of the week" sites that infected my PC.

Too scared to clean things manually. I'd probably completely fuck my machine up.

It's possible, though most of the time if you get the name of the virus or spyware a search on the google groups or the web will walk you through how to get rid of it.

The free game of the week has caused problems before. I say we burn Scabbie.
