Hello and welcome to the new music competition. You are invited to submit a one minute song of your making. The song must be completely ridiculous and if possible offensive, references to counterglow are a bonus.

If you don't have any music making software or hardware then plug your microphone into your computer, get your kazoo and cowbell ready and start creating. The weirder the better.

Entries to be in by 1st June.

We will do a poll at the end of the process to see who the winner is. The winner will be able to proudly display in their sig that they are the weirdest person on counterglow.

Teams are permitted. :)

If I email you a reason file will you be able to mp3 it?

protein

Yup. :)

Just under or over a minute is fine.

Did you get the one I sent? It was just a test to see if I can mail you .rsn files...

Really?

Sent to drummer"at"loudmedicine.net. That still works right?

Yeah. I'll get it in a minute probably.

Still haven't got it. Can you re-send it?

Debaser

Sent again, though I was mailing Alex Rebus earlier and they were taking a while to get through...

Right, I've made a crap backing and exported it as a file. Now to sneak into university and record the vocals in a way that doesn't make me look like a total idiot.

I'm going to have a go at entering this. If I do it'll be the first song I've ever finished!

I have no music software, I can't play any instruments except the piano (badly) and I can't get that to the microphone, so I'm going to persuade my sister to do a vocal duet with me.

Right, "Venom's First Fucktrumpet Polska in C Major" is done. Awful it is. Now to go home, compress it and upload it somewhere.

protein
16-05-2004, 15:46:06
I started one which had a computer voice singing "venom's going to kill us all" but it started sounding really great. Now I've reversed the vocals and it's becoming a proper Bagua track.

I've got to do something spectacularly offensive for this comp.

Here you go: "Venom's First Fucktrumpet Polska ín C Major". It's not particularly offensive but it is crap and I believe that was the main point of the excercise.

Yes, my enrty will feature Hardy "har har" Hardy crooning away.

Yes, and also Gareth has a proper mic we can borrow, can put it through the 4 track for recording.

Nills Lagerbaak

Do you have reason synched with anything? Otherwise I'll bring Qbase over, just so we don't have a mare doing any drums.

How do I get Reason to play .wav files???

Funkodrom
19-05-2004, 10:01:10
You can't.

I made some (short) drum loops in Reason exported them as audio files (.wav) and imported them into cakewalk then just copied and pasted the loops where I needed them into the song. Not sure if that's the best way.

I also had to sample that Last Ninja SID into a .wav, crop it, work out the tempo and fit it into bars.

If you have the reason files and wavs you are welcome to come over to my house to put it all together on cakewalk.

Debaser
19-05-2004, 10:06:03
That's retarded. There must be some way of doing it. Are you saying reason's designed only to play the samples that come with it?

Funkodrom
19-05-2004, 10:08:49
Ah... I see what you mean now.

Try firing up a sampler. Half way along the top bit of the sampler is a little thing where you can import a wav into the sampler.

I am not sure but I think you need a sampler per sample...

Funkodrom
19-05-2004, 10:10:44
It was a lot easier to see what was going on in cakewalk.

Yeah it's a good song and everything, but now there's a problem:

I have loads of Mp3's (about 9gigs worth), and I often just put the whole lot on to random play mode. Do I delete Sir Penguins effort now I've heard it (unlikely) or do I run the risk of having it start playing of its own accord sometime in the future (chances are at a very inappropriate moment)....

Good effort though. It certainly makes my soon to be unleashed hip hop effort seem quite poor.

Reviews:

Gasmaske: Some kind of mad eighties R-type clone game music. Up-tempo and cheesy as Hell. Love it.

Ninja Sheep: Again, pinball music warped with a sinister undertone juxtaposing the jolly chirping. Something akin to a pinball machine in an abbatoir. Then the body beat kicks in like a sledgehammer to the small animals heads. Cool.

Acorn: Perverted Wurzel-athon. A thigh slapping celebration of beastiality and scrumpy fuelled sister molestation. Certainly a Laz inspired track.

Bummed: A tender homage to the joys of anal sex to the tune of a band that are more often than not found up their own arses. Agree with Slappy about the thought behind the lyrics and getting it to scan in time with the original piece.

A fine set of tunes thus far, and I'll review mr snapcase's effort once I have found something that'll play it. I'll probably have to upgrade my Winamp.
