Pre-empting the inevitable posting of this I thought I'd FGOTW it. I think this is the best Yeti Sports yet because it's based on skill rather than luck, but has the same addictiveness factor. Good stuff!

Well, I eventually got over 3000.

Scabrous Birdseed

REALLY? How?

Scabrous Birdseed
01-05-2004, 14:38:20
Oh, 3000 total. Not in a single go. Yah.

LoD

BTW, I've noticed that the power bar regenerates very slowly.

I just got over 4000 total for the first time.

Drekkus

took some practice, but I now have a record of 4234.26 total and 1508 for a single one. Best scores give more than 1700 for a single one. How do they do that???

Debaser
03-05-2004, 14:46:09
I can't get more than 800 for a single try.

Group your flaps in threes whenever you approach the ground.

LoD
03-05-2004, 22:16:20
The key is also grabing an albatros when you are already falling - this will give you a greater initial speed...

Debaser

3944.34 is my best so far...

I used the 'b' button today.

1441.38 on one attempt. Ended up diving into the ground so the total is low though.

How do you get over mid 1400s?

Scabrous Birdseed

I dunno, 1475 is my top score.

Notice now some birds are faster than others? Does anyone know whether the bird you get affects speed/distance?

You know Lurkie, most people come to that conclusion already in high school ;)...

An African or a European Swallow?

LoD

Oh? I do the opposite- click once a bit before it reaches the ground, then twice when it does.

Damn cookies.

I can't get over 1300 using drekkus's method, but by hitting the beak of the bird (from below) then clicking as above I routinely do 1450.

NOW I've started to work it out.

I haven't hit 1500 at all, but I can consistently get 1400+ by hitting the albatross while falling and then double clicking throughout just before hitting the ground, except at the very end when you use that last bit of power. You end up with a series of alternating big and little arcs.

Funkodrom

That's the method I'm using, I'll try landing on the albatross.

I've got two methods that work equally well, one is pretty much Lurker's, the other involves hitting the beak from below, clicking once on the way down then double-clicking near the bottom. Just big arches that one.

Definitely found an improvement to the previous method I was using.

Yes? Out with it.

Got 1540.81 and had another 1500 + in the same round, but the 480 something screwed me.

Anyway, this is what I've been doing:

1. In general, follow the double flap routine, but flap three times on the third set. Afterwards, you continue double flapping, although there may be opportunities and reason to flap three times towards the end (I haven't fine-tuned that yet). Using this method, you should cross the 1000 mark with half or slightly more than half of your power line still lit. Whenever you've only got enough power for one (and sometimes two flaps if you won't get a power increase to create a third), try to use them at as high a point as you can without causing the bird to max out.

2. Never hit the bird on the way up b/c the downward velocity and angles afterward give it too much speed on the second set of flaps after that. Obviously, the higher the bird when you hit it, the better, but you can still get good results as long as you don't cause the bird to hit the ceiling.
