Here's something else to look forward to in 2005:

Intel's getting impatient with the IEEE standards people, who have been working on a wireless USB standard since last summer with little progress. Intel is going to start work on a wireless USB specification with the cooperation of Microsoft, HP, Philips (remember them?), Samsung, and other companies.

WUSB devices will be able to transfer at USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbps--60 MB/s) at up to 30 feet. Presumably, that's with a line-of-sight.

I think Dvorak mentioned something like this in his column a little while back. Something about frequency-hopping ultra wideband radios derived from LPI (Low Probability of signal Intercept) radar technology. Back in the 80s, the military originally wanted the JSTARS to be stealthy, so it didn't make sense to put a powerful conventional SLAR into a stealth aircraft. Eventually, the radar technology made it to the B-2, but the JSTARS ended up being a modified 707.
