Criteria: You have to absolutely love it. Think it's musically brilliant. Consistantly excellent all the way through. The kind of album you'd almost be offended if someone told you it was shit. Oh and to prevent Darkstaresque posts you aren't allowed to suggest more than 2 a day.

I'm going to research all of them and see what I can find in FOPP etc, my CD collection has some big holes. I'll start off. These are probably what I consider to be the best two 'alternative' rock albums ever released.

1. Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins
2. Relationship of Command - At the Drive-In

A good thread which got lost is hereby bumped.

Suicide - Suicide
Experimental electro-punk from 1977 New York. Introduced by G. Riffs. I must nod. Includes a very entertaining live track/gig called "23 Minutes Over Brussels" when they supported Elvis Costello and received, shall we say, a very mixed reception.

and thinking back over post-2004 favourites

Genesis - Wendy & Bonnie
Sounds Of Monsterism Island - Various
Greatest Hits - Cardiacs
Silver Apples - Silver Apples
Yr Atal Genhedlaeth - Gruff Rhys
The Perfect Prescription - Spacemen 3
Fear Of Music - Talking Heads
The Vogue Years - Francoise Hardy
Black Monk Time - The Monks (for anyone who hasn't heard it yet ;) )

2 a day. Just noted. Well, I had some catching up to do......

Mr. Bas
18-05-2007, 13:26:08
I've never heard Suicide, although I remember Laz raving about them, or some of their tracks at least, in the past. I guess I should give it a try sometime.

And back to the main topic:

Bad Brains - Banned in DC: Greatest Riffs. I know it's a compilation, but they're brilliant and their regular albums are way too inconsistent.
Mark Lanegan - Whiskey for the Holy Ghost.
