I'm being offered a good deal on a ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128. As I don't know shit about video cards, I'm looking for some advice. Is it good or not ? Should I consider the more expensive 9800 XT 256 ? (about CHF 450 extra)

Thanks

AFAIK, it is good. You can safely play all possible pc games with that for the next few years, I reckon. I don't think the price difference is worth it.

It is very good, the XTs are not a very good value.

buyit!

I've got the 256 (only because i couldnt gethold of the 128 version)

though if your PC is quite old you might not see a massive improvement. ie mine has only got AGP 4x and the card supports AGP 8x.

That deal is an integral part of getting a new box actually.

Well then, if I had a choice between a 256MB 9600 and a 128MB 9800 what should I go with?

The Radeon 9800 pro...if you have a fast cpu

I read somewhere that the memory for the Radeon 9x00 128 MB versions is faster than that used in the 256 MB versions. Does anyone know if that's true?

Vice versa, but the latency is higher in the 256MB version.

256MB = DDR2 800MHz, 128MB = DDR 780MHz.

DDR2 has higher latency but higher bandwidth.
