Did you ever read something that had an actual profound effect on your outlook, attitude and worldview?
Here are some that have for me...in no particular order.

Siddhartha (Hesse)
The Bridge Across Forever (Richard Bach)
Desolation Angels (Kerouac)
Zorba The Greek (Niko Kazantzakis (sp?)
Tao Te Ching (Lao Tzu)
Meditations (of Marcus Aurelius)
The Tao of Pooh (silly but good!)

i'm a hardcore atheist, i have equal contempt for religon and fluffy spiritual concepts

but in terms of things that 'had an actual profound effect on your outlook, attitude and worldview' then:

marx & engels - the communist manifesto
george orwell - 1984
descartes - meditations on first philosophy
graham greene - end of the affair
hemingway - blood in the afternoon, the sun also rises
j g ballard - crash
j k huysmans - a rebours
brett easton ellis - american psycho

it would take too long to explain the reasons why i picked some of these, but they are all important in their own way

I hated Siddartha. It made me hate that entire religon. Especially when I failed the test on it.
