It works fine but I don't have space to keep my scanner plugged in all the time. Unfortunately every time I plug the fucker in, I have to reinstall the drivers. is there a way round this? I'm running win2k.

Leave it plugged in all the time. Its your scanner, not the hub doing this

I'd rather not. It takes up space it don't nmeed all the time. Is there no way round this?

Get a really long cord so that the scanner can sit out of the way and still be plugged in.

How bizarre. It seems that every time I put the scanner on a new usb port it demands new software but if it goes back into a port it had been connected to before its fine.

How odd. Is this usual for usb?

Nope. But its usual for crappy drivers.

The easiest thing to do is to keep a copy of the driver on your HD, for those times you are going to plug in and use the scanner.

If you get lucky, you can find a newer driver for your scanner, one which isn't so sucky.

Other then that... buy a new scanner, and hope it's got better drivers.

Hmmm - What OS are you using?

and does your BIOS have an option to turn on legacy PnP for USB?

Win2K no idea. I'll look next time I boot up.

I don't have that bios setting but it looks like the problem only happens first time on a different usb port. Its bizzare having to reinstall the drivers for each port. Don't they work as a shared resource or somesuch?

Its not USBs fault, as Darkstar said, its the crappy drivers for your scanner.

No doubt, you said that earlier and I don't have the problem with the printer I bought. bearing inb mind I got the scanner fr 20 quid I'm not really bothered about the crappy drivers. it clunks sure but it works and didn't cost much!

Try downloading updated drivers from the manufacturer's web site.
