I'd say two thumbs down.

No Elvis impersonators.

Pretty danged good IMHO. Some of the combat scenes were amazing. Though I can't wait for the director's cut to see some of the stuff they left out.

Yeah, best one of the three so far. Maroule summed it up really well in counterpoint.

Good, very good. But unevenly paced. I know I know I know, the books. But the books weren't paced worth a shit either. Great battles in this one though and unlike The Two Towers, I was actually interested in the travels of Frodo.

The battle scenes were fantastic. The scenes with Sam or Frodo I could take or leave, due to me automatically comparing their plight on mountains to Joe Simpson’s in Touching the Void.

But why did they take out the scouring to have ten-minute close ups of Frodo as he said goodbye?

It was ok.
didn't grip me as much as the others actually.

Now that I complete agree with. I think he should have cut 10 minutes of battle time and included 17 more false endings. Goddamn that was tedious.

The rumor going around now is that the DVD may be 5 HOURS LONG! That's over an hour of new footage.

Apparently it was 10 hours before they started cutting...
