I have a few fps's but would like something of a different genre, I am a bit wary of the AOK type game as I only have a limited amount of time I can play for in one go (that's what my girlfriend says) unless it has a good 2 player mode and I can get G/F to play too.

AoK needn't take that long.

Have you tried SMAC? If you play against the AI, I am told it's all over inside 40 minutes.

It was the AoK type game which was one of the reasons Liquid and his ex split up. Spending to long in front of the computer.
I thus assumed that they were games which needed a decent amount of time playing them per session.

If I want a quick gaming fix, i'd go for something like fifa (dont have iss pro evo on pc), or racing game. At the moment that's Colin McRae's Rally 2.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (you need a joy pad)

Yeah, that's a great game.

They could use the THPS engine.

A serious suggestion - what about Railroad Tycoon II.

Loads a trains to play with, great blues musci in the background and one of the best (if not THE best) economics "engines" I have ever found in a game.

Heartily recommended.

I had great fun with Transport Tycoon, any similarities?

I recommend Freecell! :gasmaske:

I'd rather play Russian squares, Labarinth, and hyperbowl.

I don't know any of those. If I could remember the name of that gaming site which has all the old games on, I'd go and search them out.

I think they are the free games on XP.

Thief 1 is fantastic.
Havnt played 2 - the demo is good but the levels are too long for my limited antention span.

What was it i was saying?

Transport Tycoon was a 'knock-off'/same family sort of thing to Railroad Tycoon 2. TT has enough differences (like, trucks, planes, boats, helicopters) from RT2 that they are 'different' games. But if you enjoyed setting up your own routes and having fun moving goods in TT, then you will like RRT2. The differences between the two is more of flavor. RRT2 is focused on TRAINS.

And of course, if it wasn't for Transport Tycoon, we wouldn't have Rollercoaster Tycoon. Chris was playing around with Transport Tycoon, getting ready (and actually working on: ) Transport Tycoon 2, but was having so much fun just laying out crazy track arrangements that he realized he was making Coasters. So he changed the whole project, and gaming history, and a Game God, was born. ;)

In the same vein as RRT2, I'd suggest Trade Empires. It's a RRT2/TT through the ages game. Way cool. But it's not something I just play for 30 minutes at a shot... I enjoy it too much, and find several hours slipping away into it at a sitting.

SMAC is actually a nice quick game, if you Speed SMAC it. ;)

Rollercoaster Tycoon is a lot of fun. And that is a game I can get up and leave, if I HAVE to. But I'd rather sit and play it, building more coasters, and in general having fun with it.

The Sims can be used for a quick 30 minutes to an hour of fun. If you are into that sort of game.

Oh, and Majesty. I really like that game, but again, I find I play it for a couple of hours at a stretch, rather then just a 30 minute slice.

Again, it depends on what you are looking for.

For a 30 minute slice? I generally pull my arcade games out and play them. Joust, Raiden 2, Rubik's Games, Puzzle Bobble 2, Full Tilt Pinball 1 & 2... Just to name a few.

If you find that you like Thief, I'd strongly recommend System Shock 2.

Same engine as Thief, different genre, and really creepy.

Point and Click adventure games all the way (and I don't mean, shite, unfunny myst colnes, but real LucasArts ones). Even girls like them, and they're nice non-violent, non-death intelligent games that you can play together (not MP, but SP together) really well. Problem: Most of the classics are old and look very sub-standard these days. Still, get the LucasArts Archives Adventure Collection (http://www.lucasarts.com/companystore/adventure/)... (btw, works fine under Win 98, don't trust 'em.)

Comand and conquer Red Alert 2 Yuris revenge. This is the game that has sucked me in and introduced me to online gaming. My ps2 is now sitting in the corner gavering dust ,I cannot recomend this game enough. :bounce:

Yeah, as RTSs go, Red Alert 2 is easy, simple to learn, and the levels can be completed quickly. Good game.

Thief is also really good. And old, so cheap as well.

For top line RTS, Age of Kings MP is about as good as you can get.

Aren't there some kind of Barbie Makeover games you guys can play together?

For games I play for an hour or so... ZOO TYCOON!

Just tried this out this past weekend, and it's a lot of fun. Right in line with RollerCoaster Tycoon, only your guests aren't NEARLY as picky. Fun fun... the new patch seems to have a resource leak in it, forcing you to save the game every 30 minutes, otherwise you loose your zoo WHEN the game crashes. The on CD version worked fine for hours on end for me, so it's odd. Definately a resource leak, as after 45 minutes, my HD starts to thrash. Like I said, didn't happen with the older version. No clue what the update is supposed to get you, but I suppose there is supposed to be something.

What can I say? I just like odd games now and then. ;)

What's so good about RA2 compared with the old RA and additions or Tibe Sun?

RA2 is good, but what does Yuri's Revenge add on?

System Shock 2 and Deus Ex I would heartily recommend. Ok they're both played from the FP perspective, but there's so much depth to both games and (SS2 especially) they are both scary and difficult.

EA Sports Rugby 2001 is a fun sports game if you want something different from Football related games.

And you don't really care about the rules of Rugby being followed. ;)

yeah, some of the games' interpretations of the "laws" are a bit odd, but never mind

EA must have consulted an Australian referee. ;)
