View Full Version : Linux for x86-64

I need to install a Linux version, so naturally I want an x86-64 version.

I know SuSE 9 has a 64-bit x86-64 edition, but I can't seem to find it on their website for download even though they claim 9 is now on their website -- they have i386 and PPC and whatnot, but no x86-64.

Any help?

Forget it, Linux is still crap.

Found the Mandrake 9.2RC1 for AMD64 ISOs.

Was reading their mailing list. Two major problems:
Hardware RAIDs are not supported (so I can't even install anything).
Radeon 9500, 9600, 9700, and 9800s are not supported.

So unless your PC is 5 years old or older, don't bother with it.

But it will be ready for the desktop in just a few years!

ATI has Linux Radeon drivers at their website. They seem to work fine with my cheapie Radeon 9000. As for hardware RAID controllers, I haven't the foggiest. It might require kernel recompilation, but the catch 22 is that you have to have a Linux system up and running to do the recompilation.

They may have Linux Radeon drivers, but they sure as hell don't have x86-64 Linux Radeon Drivers, which is what I care for.

Nvidia does, though...
