Has anyone got a copy of the latest Rollercoaster Tycoon that they could copy for me? I was addicted to the first game.

Dammit man. That's illegal.

King_Ghidra

you can get it + the expansion for only £22.49 from amazon

Venom

I think that's 22.48 too much for him.

protein

damn right. Why pay for anything that you can pirate? I haven't bought any software in my life.

King_Ghidra
17-11-2003, 15:45:48
well at the risk of starting up a very old argument, that is an extremely arrogant and stupid attitude, especially from someone who would like to sell his own work

or would you feel happy about people pirating your music?

Funkodrom

Good thing you've never pirated anything or that'd sound really hypocritical.

If more people get to hear my music and appreciate it then thatís excellent. Someone will buy it eventually.

I would like to encourage you all to download my music and promote it to your friends. www.bleeding-ear.co.uk

Software - If a friend offers to copy me some software that I think that I could benefit from - letís say Cakewalk - then Iím not going spend £300 on it in a shop instead. As it happens I tried it and it doesnít work on my computer.

Maybe when I am as rich as you I will be able to buy new software instead of accepting gifts of copied software.

Basically I agree with your point, but seeing as you've mocked my naivety at not copying games before I think it's a bit rich for you to get on your high horse about it now.

Protein, you need to watch this video, it'll show you in a really far out way why you shouldn't copy software, man.

Urgh.... sorry, I'm feeling tired and bitchy today. Not wanting to start an argument. I agree that asking for stuff like this on a forum is bad form, but I do think this thread got a bit out of hand.

true, but what i objected to was not the request but the statement about never buying anything you can pirate.

i don't actively seek to avoid paying for software, i just have some pirate software. Ditto music. I think the arguments are pretty well worn and well known regarding not supporting products you like with your own cash. God knows EA may be making money but virtually no one else is.

people may thuink they don't have an influence as individuals but it's that attitude that leads to pathetic electoral turnouts and other awful things like chris being voted out of pop idol

i suppose my attitude is hypocritical, i do think people should make an effort to support things they like, but i also do have some pirate software

well i'll shut the fuck up, i don't really know which way i feel about the topic

There's a few issues. Like authors making a living... like pricing your products at a level that people feel is worth paying for, rather then at a level they feel is too high and would rather inconvience themselves pirating... like making it easier to find and buy your product, rather then find and pirate your product.

Did any get missed?

I'm against piracy, if you can afford the product. If you'd never buy that product in the first place, then you having a copy is no big deal, is it? But you passing it on can be... like passing it on to someone who would otherwise buy it to get it. Then, you are being part of the problem. But maybe on 5 cents. Or a dollar, say... to the content makers. Not a big deal, right? Just a nickle, dime, or dollar. That never matters, right? Instead of supersizing that meal, they just have to make it regular, right?

Just how people like to think about things. Most people will screw over others whenever they get a chance and think noone else will ever know. That's why digital piracy is the dominant form of content movement everywhere.

arrogant and stupid attitude

I will probably be buying pirated and counterfeit material from them again. Want a Rolex?

don't get me wrong, i still think your attitude to software piracy sucks

and yep i may be an offender too but if a murderer says something is murder is it any less valid than if an innocent man does?

Time Twister Expansion pack, I have a review copy of it, but I don't have RCT2, and you need it to play!:bash:

'doh!

Well, not that I condone this sort of behavior. You could easily download it with Edonkey. That way you can do a good review and more people will buy the game. I wonder if that's morally wrong?

zmama

Yes, ;) and a good way to introduce all sorts of bad stuff to your computer.

Sean

They include trojans in CD images of games?

Darkstar
18-11-2003, 22:19:59
Trojans and viruses are often found in such things. After all, who are you going to complain to?

Sean
18-11-2003, 22:25:12
I can honestly say I have never found a trojan or virus in such a thing, and I have downloaded a lot of crap games.

Only with permission of the copyright owner.

nowadays copying a computer game usually takes away some important component, such as video, music, sound effects or speech etc. So you'd miss part of the gameplay experience...

Not to mention the fact that large files distributed over peer-to-peer networks are highly likely to be corrupted anyway.

I don't bother looking for pirated games anymore, if I really want it I'll buy it, if I'm so-so I'll wait for it to appear in a games shop second hand for half the price. ie I got simcity 4 for £16 the other week.

Chris

I also find that abandoned games are missing something (usually sound.)

I contacted Atari, they will send me RCT2 so i can review their expansion. :)

You mean, you'll be making a copy of a Ferrari. Would that be Test Drive : Ferrari, or some Need For Speed?

The main reason people don't think copying software is *STEALING* is because the original is left behind. Stealing involves taking something from someone else, and nothing was taken, was it? Just an extra copy was made. So the owner still has their original property.

Indeed, that's why software piracy is prosecuted under illegal copying and illegal use of intellectual/copyrighted works. Because it isn't stealing. A sales potientional (or many) was lost, but not the original material.
