Good review Ghiddy, could you give some specifics on how the battles work? Do you ever have to approach from the rear?

P.S. Jesus, Nav, you can't keep deleting my posts so I end up beginning with a BTW! It's the second time in a row!

What I mean is, even the most simple games allow multiple positions and multiple activities from the characters. Does this one implement rear action?

You've got to be taking the piss

So it's strictly full frontal assault then?

King_Ghidra

right you, get out, this is a serious thread :bash:

The question was actually semiseriously meant. I'd like to know more about the tactical setup...

King_Ghidra

ok, if you promise you're not fucking with me...

as i mentioned atacks from the rear of an opponent have something like a 20% higher chance of hitting than from the front. Attacks from the side have something like 10% higher. I'm not sure if damage is higher from different sides, i don't think so.

So there is a certain amount of advantage for more mobile charcaters to get round the backs of their opponents. And for any character casting an area effect spell, for example, it definitely pays to move to a point on the battlefied where you maximise the chances of getting side and rear attacks on your target area.

As a corollary, it's also a good idea to keep your characters together in a bunch so that enemies don't get behind your lead characters. This is also a good idea so that your area effect cure spells can hit as many of your own team as possible.

Oh, it was placed at the beginning. Didn't see that.

You never want enemies creeping up the behinds of your lead characters.

Is the rear attack so hard it's detrimental to the characters' health or do you recommend trying it?

King_Ghidra

right that's it!

Well I appreciated the review. Thanks K_G.

Kudos for the referencing of Shining Force in the opening too. One of my favourite games! (that and it's sequel)

I've just realised there's some kind of bizarre typo where i forgot to finish the sentence, 'This incarnation has been designed for the Gameboy Advance, which has been blessed with'

oh dear :o

guess i was going to say 'many great RPG's'

Actually that line should come out, it's pointless.

I knew that review wasn't as good as everyone was saying.

And I've been really thinking a lot lately about buying a GBA.

King_Ghidra@home
06-11-2003, 18:18:52
well if you want to 'try before you buy' i could send you the GBA emulator and some 'review games'

anyway, you're just jealous that i am the CG review master

actually i have a jedi academy review and a rather belated DOAxtreme beach volleyball review ready to submit too

What about a PES3 review?

King_Ghidra@home
06-11-2003, 18:36:05
you don't need a review of pes3, you just need a list of shops where you can buy it :D

Scabrous Birdseed

How about a Tony Hawk's Underground review?

King_Ghidra@home
06-11-2003, 18:50:35
when's that out? i haven't got it...

anyway once my import FFXI arrives no other games will be played for about 6 months

While in Korea I plan to seek out and befriend locals who have a copy of Winning Eleven 7. I shall then proceed to school them in the ways of footballing righteousness by kicking their puny foreign asses all over the pitch. Yeah!

fp plans to teach Koreans how to play computer games?

Only a very specific sub-genre of soccer games. :p

I wouldn't presume to challenge anyone in Korea (even a deaf, blind, alcoholic grandmother) to any other game, of course.

The review master, even coming out of your own mouth that sounds like sarcastic bullshit, KG.

if it sounded any other way i'd be disappointed

but the fact remains, i have written more games reviews for cg than anyone else (even if they're the least read)

Can I have them then? :D

I'm Cumber's brother, decided to come annoy people and sign up for the Angband challenges.

post it on Counterpoint :D If you are Cumber's brother you will be suitably insulted and then welcomed
