View Full Version : LWP6 suggestions

2CD, 2 song each, like this one. I think it worked well.

Everyone submits comments for their own track up front (to the editor). If they've got their arses in gear sufficiently to revise these after reading reviews, all well and good.

Strict deadlines for review returns. If they're not in, they get left out.

Theme? I like the idea. My suggestion for the next is simply "Heaven" and "Hell". Make of that what you will.

Any thoughts?

Sounds good to me...I'm willing to work distribution, etc. again to help it along.
Don't know jack about compiling or publishing, but if someone wants to explain it, I can do that instead.

Sean

I would like a theme of Then and Now.

I've been saving up tracks under the premise that the next one would be a time-based one. I really, really want three tracks on there, and free reign.

I’s also been saving up tracks, so I’ll just adapt the theme to suit.

Lazarus and the Gimp

Let's get an idea of how many are in. Given how organised some of you buggers are, a 3CD 50-track set would take several years to do.

Funkodrom
15-10-2003, 08:34:25
How about we do a head and feet theme, we didn't quite manage that last time. :)

Scabrous Birdseed
15-10-2003, 09:04:47
I suppose I could upgrade my LWP6 theme to a separate compilation. Dammit.

Debaser
15-10-2003, 11:52:59
If people are gonna be taking whatever theme is set and shoehorning in songs they've already chosen because they think they'll make them look cool, surely the whole theme idea is obsolete, and we should just go back to a time based set-up.

Scabrous Birdseed
15-10-2003, 12:03:32
I'm not implying that I would. I'm implying that I want a time-based one.

only if you a) define exactly what that means for the confused people out there
b) get someone to compile it so that the right songs are on the right bits

i certainly submitted a dancey track and a thoughtful/meaningful track...not my fault if someone put them on the same disc

instead of making a CD

you should just ftp them to eachother

True, but CD's can be played on ordinary Hi-fi's, in cars, on personal CD players etc. And they're nicer to have in a geeky way.

Anyway, we had this whole discussion last time...

That's what we get for getting Shakey to make the CDs.

yup :D

but it was also a problem in that people were still arguing about whether it was suuposed to be head or heart and feet up to the last minute. The underlying concept got totally lost so it should be no surprise that it ended up as 'LWP5: the two tracks each one'

JM^3
15-10-2003, 14:37:15
ok

just make it an option than

(there are still ones of you who are on dialup?)

Oh, burning a couple of CD's worth of stuff I've downloaded is no problem. It's the sound quality of MP3s I objected to. If someone is willing to host the ~1.5 Gb of Wav files needed I'd have no problem downloading them...

I'm on dialup...what's it to ya? :)
I'm a poor person...and I don't watch much tv, so I haven't been able to justify all the cable expenses for dialup...unless you can figure out a way that it saves me money?

If we’re doing the internetdownloadthing, then a better idea than Wav and FTP would probably be Monkey’s Audio (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/) (lossless, compressed audio) and BitTorrent (http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/) (centralised peer-to-peer downloading).

Oh, and Debaser? Joking. Chill.

Sean

You can burn a CD to send. Why can’t you burn one from lossless files you’ve downloaded?

Lazarus and the Gimp

Scabrous Birdseed

We give you a load of files you can easily convert to normal audio that has CD quality. You use your CD Burner to burn several CDs from this.

Lazarus and the Gimp
16-10-2003, 05:52:30
So I spend several weeks downloading huge files on my dial-up connection, then further farting around to turn them into a format I can listen to? This being several CD's of tracks that will take months to review and leave people jaded as hell? Bearing in mind it took 2 months to review 28 tracks, and even then lots of people didn't get reviews in?

JM^3
16-10-2003, 07:11:18

Look, JM3 or whatever, take a hike...you're stirring up a hornet's nest here.
Obviously, enough people have concerns to just continue with the way it it.
I like the tangible, tactile delivery of a CD in my post, as well as the artwork, etc that comes with it.

If you all want to take one step further to becoming brains floating in a jar, go ahead, but don't include me.

It's just that JM shows up out of nowhere and suddenly we're rehashing old news again.

So can we get back to the "theme" theme? Suggestions so far are Normal Time Based (and presumably LWP7 themed), Heaven and Hell, or Two Covers Possibly Interrelated In some Wacky Way. Would be good if we could decide on this so I could commence selecting tracks.

18-10-2003, 22:48:36

Can I join in on this one? I was stupidly busy last time and I actually have CDs to burn to now.

Head and feet was good. Past and present would also be good. Up and down would be quite good.

Gay & Straight?

CD1 contains peoples favourite songs from musicals, CD2 contains the most extreme metal tolerable.

That's entirely down to people's interpretation of the titles- which is why I left it vague.

Sean
19-10-2003, 20:05:44
So because it’s vague, I can’t ask for other options?

I don't particularly like the Heaven and Hell theme either. Gay and Straight will end up very stereotype methinks. Up and Down is a bit nonsensical.

I just had a good idea.

LWP Pairs.
CD1 is like last time in that everyone submits 1 song each, and they all get reviewed in the usual way. CD2 also has one song from each participant, but the song has to be connected to the first one in some way, (for example my song on CD1 might be Hey Joe by Jimi, a song about shooting someone. My song on CD2 could then be Murder Was The Case by Snoop Dogg, a song about getting shot). Again all the songs get reviewed in the normal way, but each reviewer also has to guess who submitted the song, the pair on CD1, and the reason for the connection.

I know this sounds like unnecessary hassle, but at least it would mean people had to listen to the songs properly (ie: more than once).

Any thoughts?

Lazarus and the Gimp
20-10-2003, 08:19:45
I quite like that. Even if I'm not a huge fan of the parlour game stuff, it's still a good one.

Scabrous Birdseed
20-10-2003, 11:08:41
Yeah that works. Do we have to make the connection really opaque? I've got a couple of tracks with a really obvious connection I'd quite like to put on.

Debaser
20-10-2003, 15:35:44
The ones I'm thinking of doing are quite obvious too. I reckon half the fun will be creating tenuous links.

Immortal Wombat
20-10-2003, 17:41:02

So your "up" song on CD1 has to be connected in some way to your 'down' song on CD2. I like it.

So it could be something like:

UP: Can't Stop Rockin' - ZZ Top
DOWN: The Top - The Cure

So far, placing them on a CD in an envelope, with the correct address and postage fees paid, has met with a 100% success rate.

As far as the return fee is concerned, just send the compiler drugs.
