www.wargamer.com have a AAR of CMAK.

Looks very very good.

Also theres a new CMAK forum at www.battlefront.com

No word of release date yet buts it must be soon.

13-10-2003, 09:32:17
yeah, I posted that yesterday in our monster thread, it's jolly good indeed :)

13-10-2003, 09:58:46
Oops so you did.

Well it deserves its own thread!

13-10-2003, 22:29:18
Yes. It does.

14-10-2003, 07:26:20
will we see "ice man Venom" (that's how Julia calls him) playing at CMAK with us?

14-10-2003, 09:33:31
Some more info from posted by Moon over at battlefront

I guess one could list two major new features:

dust kicked up by moving vehicles, muzzle blast and shell impacts
multi-gun tanks

Besides those, there are hundreds of tweaks and refinements to the code, some small, some not so small.

Most vehicles have somewhat increased poly counts for example (even though we still use way fewer than, ahem, competitors ).
At the same time map sizes have increased to 20 square kilometers for battles and 32 square kilometers for operations for example.
The AI has been tweaked to handle open desert maps realistically, and to cope with a "dusty" environment. It still cannot replace a human opponent however, but it remains adaptable and not scripted.
Besides various ground conditions, we have three distinctive ground (soil) types now - dirt (gras), arid rocks and sand (snow is a ground condition, not a type).
We have new terrain types like vineyards or sandbag positions, and likewise new buildings (mosque for example) for the various theaters.
Ballistics and armor penetration calculations were further refined based on newest research and data.
Desert haze has been implemented (affects spotting distances on mid-day desert maps).
OOPS, FORGOT THIS ONE: Tons of new sound effects for weapons, vehicles, ambient sounds and voices (even distinguished between british and US etc.). Matt did an awesome job!

And so on and so forth.

ooooo 20 km2 maps and arty strikes/dust clouds that block LOS.

I don't want to whip anyone too badly so they quit playing the game forever.

14-10-2003, 12:13:52
Here's the big question: will i be able to buy this game and play straight away or will i have to load six million patches and alternate versions to get a game?

14-10-2003, 12:18:06
They did a good job with the last two games being completely playable out of the box, so that means this one will be fucked beyond belief.

But really, it should be great right off the bat. Then the thousands of mods will be created and it will get confusing.

14-10-2003, 12:30:03
"ice man" venom. Presumably because he melts when it gets too hot.

KG - its just like any other online game. If you want to play online it helps to stay up to date with the patches. you dont need any mods to be able to play and you dont have to have the same mods as your opponent. They only affect the graphics on your machine.

14-10-2003, 12:32:48
ah, ok. The impression that i had got from reading about CM was that you needed the original and the rest were add ons. I didn't realise the last couple were actually stand alone games.

14-10-2003, 12:33:30
I don't use mods, can't be arsed

KG, I don't think you should buy it. It's quite complex, at a higher tactical level, and you probably couldn't cope. Better stick to Soul Calibur II.

14-10-2003, 12:35:04

Right you fucker, you just secured a purchase (probably your intent all along) :p

Excellent, fresh blood.

Can I show the newbie how to safely handle the 150mm VT?

14-10-2003, 12:44:51
great recruit...
now Beta, get shy man Venom to join us...

14-10-2003, 12:48:11

14-10-2003, 12:52:12
you can start slow and gentle, by trashing RC...
everybody does it.... RC is a great person to do it first with...

14-10-2003, 12:56:22
There's no way I'm letting you bitches kick my ass and then brag in my virtual face. I'll just keep letting the computer do it. It's not a very good braggart.

14-10-2003, 13:01:44
Oh come on Venom. You could always play LoD and claim a win by default.

14-10-2003, 13:03:01
sure we'll brag once or twice... and not much, beating you isn't exactly the ultimate accomplishment in CM...
but it's only hard the first time... and the plus side is that it's a much MUCH better game to play with a fellow human
playing alone is just that, playing alone : a quick fix, hardly satisfying

14-10-2003, 13:04:53
I'm used to playing alone.

14-10-2003, 13:08:43
and that makes you irritable, sad and crancky
come out and play with your fellow human beings...
even as a starter you'd probably butcher RC and RC, hopeless but courageous starters!

14-10-2003, 13:27:32
But I don't like other human beings and they don't like me. It's an understanding we have.

14-10-2003, 13:29:44
no, it's a lack of understanding you have
besides, a hundred years of solitude has already been written

... and how is it an *after* action report when the action isn't over? I thought I had a lot more turns to read, but nooooo. Very disappointing.

14-10-2003, 13:51:05
instead of complaining roses have thorns, rejoice thorns have roses

14-10-2003, 14:04:07
or instead of complaining, I could play and send my turns.

...if I wasn't at work.

City league softball championships tonight - no turns likely unless we get rained out. :( It'll be worth it if we win the trophy.

14-10-2003, 18:58:22
Venom, you aren't thinking...

Create an AE; Use the AE here infrequently; have AE start up with the CM crowd; Play at CM, getting beat, until you know the tricks and are a decent match; go to Poly, see if you can get MtG to play you; get beaten horribly, many times; come back here and crush all ruthlessly.

14-10-2003, 20:49:18
brilliant plan with one flaw: it would take 8 months of hard work

better play here and enjoy it, whatever the outcome

14-10-2003, 21:02:25
Yes keith - you should know.

15-10-2003, 07:30:42
if, in our next meet, in the round table in a month, anybody calls me keith, I swear I'll turn violent

15-10-2003, 08:21:28
That should be good for a laugh.

15-10-2003, 08:33:05
LOL we should get some t-shirts made up. "I am Keith"

15-10-2003, 12:13:50
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but maroule's right. Way to much hardword to set up that plan.

15-10-2003, 12:18:52
no one likes hardword if they can avoid it
