View Full Version : Will Kill Bill Thrill?

It certainly will. Did. Whatever.

Saw this at the Leiceter Square Empire on friday. It was fucking excellent, I thought it was quite decent until about half-way through when it just became pure art. Man. Amazing cinematography, set design and some glorious set pieces. And buckets of blood.

Shame they cut out a minute in the middle of it due to technical problems, the bastards.

I can't believe it was only open in one cinema for it's first week. I'm looking forward to seeing it very much.

If Scabby likes it then it must be ..... erm ..... shit now I don't know what to think.

For some reason my parents went to go see it. I just laughed when they told me that. Of course, they hated it, but that was to be expected.

So you haven't seen it yet? I'd have thought such an orgy of violence would be right up your street.

Venom

Had a busy weekend of wanking and being ignored by "friends".

The Man Who Wasn’t There[/url] was released in 2001. Intolerable Cruelty is released this Friday.

Jackie Brown was released in 1997. Kill Bill Volume 1 is released this Friday.

Is this a coincidence?

It's a very sean post.

Foster parents.

Venom killed his real parents back before he hit puberty.

OABTW: Kill Bill is fantastic. I loved that long shot in the hotel place.

Scabrous Birdseed
19-10-2003, 20:20:50
That was good, but those shots are getting a bit cliché now, everyone tries to work one in. I'm not saying The Russian Ark, but almost.

Sean
19-10-2003, 20:22:39
I know everyone uses them, but I particularly enjoyed that one. And the lights-out bit.

Funkodrom
23-10-2003, 07:56:54
It was a great film. I loved it. Forgot how cool Tarantino movies are the first time you see them.

It's a great combination of everything good about eastern cinema. The fight at the end goes from Chinese style ridiculousness to beautiful Japanese simplicity so well.

So how does that animation scene in the film work?

Sean
23-10-2003, 15:49:35
It works quite well. By far the goriest bit of the film.

Venom
23-10-2003, 15:59:27
Blood is easily drawn....hey that's kind of a pun.

Funkodrom
23-10-2003, 16:01:20
Yeah, I think it works well.

I dunno about this one - it seemed a bit shit to me - the film that is. Maybe the characters were too one-dimensional or something...

Awesome - absolutely awesome!

I saw it a while back, but had to comment here it was that awesome!:shoot:

I just watched it. It rules.

My girlfriend and I were in a full cinema and were the only people to piss ourselves laughing at all the gory bits. Especially the first decapitation. That was so funny I was laughing for ages. Brilliant stuff.

The anime was absolutely brilliant. I don't normally like anime but I would consider going to see a full film at the cinema now. Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen in little old Reading.

I was a little dissapointed with Gordon Liu. He is an amazing martial artist but I think he was massively under used in this film.

His best film has to be Buddhist Fist.

I really liked the woman with one arm convulsing on the floor with blood pumping out. Genius. It was really funny but I think a lot of people didn't get it maybe...

It's the difference between cartoon violence (the A-Team, Kill Bill etc) and realistic violence (Trainspotting, American History X etc) that people don't get.

Funkodrom
01-12-2003, 09:53:46
Kill Bill is Itchy and Scratchy violence.

protein
01-12-2003, 09:56:35
I thought that after the decapitation. The massive gushing blood spurts reminded me of early swordplay kung fu films.

Funkodrom
01-12-2003, 10:04:03
I like how it changes from that to the really Japanese minimalist swordfight between the two girls.

protein
01-12-2003, 10:40:17
There were some Japanese moments. Not just the costume and set but the pace and (like you said) minimalism. The bit at the end was dreamlike, almost like a computer game caricature of a Japanese garden.

I'm pretty sure that's the entire reason Taratino made the film.

Yeah, I know that but specifically the gushing blood was done badly just like the early Hong Kong films. That's an interesting detail to do something unrealisticly just as an homage.

I was impressed that there was pretty much no obvious kung fu in the film. Yuen Woo Ping used Japanese style fighting but with the fluidity of Chinese.

I should have said, I should own goal you.

OK, let me explain it to you with own goal protection on. The entire film was an orgy of violence. So without the violence, there is nothing left to like.

Yes. That is easily understood. Hence the reason I chose not to say to you, "That's like the whole damn movie. Idiot!" Then you could have 100-0ed me. But I knew that, so I chose to just call you a sissy.

Come on everyone, lets just all agree that it was a soulless homage/tribute to lots of crappy old film genres and that on any other level it was a bit of a waste of time. OK?

i think i've watched about 75% of this, just got to the bit where uma has hacked the mad 88's to pieces and is stepping outside to to take on oren ishii.

anyway, didn't think the start was that great, tarantino really is a misoginyst, he cannot write female dialogue or in fact any kind of dialgue other than might be spoken by a pimp or a geek.
didn't really understand the need or entertainment value in the hospital-guy-selling-fuck-with-comatose-uma bit either
the only redeeming feature was the drawn out part with uma realising she had lost her baby and husband and crying and screaming, which at least showed the film wasn't a total cartoon.

as scabby said though, about halfway through it kicks into action and becomes a really visually stunning experience. Like everyone else i loved the bit with the lights going out. Thought the anime bit was nicely done too.

Fucking awsome film though. Manga stuff, massive blood letting and Lucy Lui. *drool*

Rodgers

Went to see Shaun of the Dead last night- in the quiet bits we could hear KBII being shown in the screen next door - lots of kicking and punching noises mainly. Either that or it was a film about women's tennis.

It had a lot less fighting than part one, better dialogue.
