Anyone knows band names that have done a more electric guitar "distorcion" heavy versions of "pop" songs?

I've heard some of them recently and they were nice. Except that Black Metal version of "I can survive" that was silly.

I'm thinking more in terms of songs like Big in Japan, Everything is coming up Roses etc. "translated" to more hardrock tunes.

Big Black covered Kraftwerk's "The Model".

Snuff covered many. "I think we're alone now". "Hazy shade of winter", "Do nothing".

Pixies covered Neil Young's "Winterlong".

China Drum did a fantastic version of Wuthering Heights.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes do a great line in cover versions, but they're more punk than "hard rock"...

Punk rock that would be even better. What I meant to say with "hardrock" is harder/rockier music than the "pop" versions.

I already listened to Snuff's I think we're alone now and it's great. Exactly what I wanted. Will get to the others eventually one way or the other.

Thank you, keep it coming if you know anymore. :)

Got it. Rawk! Thanks.

Does this band and the Snuff only do covers BTW?

Yes, they're a punk-rock "supergroup" who gets together every so often and record covers.

Why supergroup? The members come from other bands?

Singer Spike Slawson formed the Gimme Gimmes in 1996, drawing in the talents of NOFX bassist Fat Mike, Lagwagon singer/guitarist Joey Cape, No Use for a Name guitarist Chris Shiflett (now in Foo Fighters), and Lagwagon drummer Dave Raun

Ah ok. My knowledge of rock will certaintly decline as months go by since there's virtually only one station now, and that's radiostation, dedicated to good rockn'n'roll and that not always. My gratitude to you all.

I agree with Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Soundgarden has a pretty cool cover of Come Together by the Beatles... And of course, Husker Du's covers of Eight Miles High and Sunshine Superman are brilliant.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. We got one of their albums at work (the one with "Mandy"). Excellent stuff, vary amusing. I love "Me & Julio Down by The Schoolyard "

I can send it to you too but there's no e-mail address on your profile and I can't seem to be able to attach a file.
