View Full Version : Mercury Nominees announced

The BBC has a ridiculous headline claiming that rock bands dominate the nominations when there is only one rock band amongst the nominees. Clearly Coldplay will win it but it's great to see The Darkness in there.

BBC report here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3085877.stm). Also there's a much more interesting article about how past winners have stood the test of time. Read it here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/3077975.stm). I'm relatively surprised to see I own 5 past winners, all of which are excellent.

I reckon either The Darkness or Radiohead will win it.

I hope it's The Darkness, that would rule.

What a crap line-up. I'd go for Martina Topley-Bird or Eliza Carthy.

I'd like to place my support on one of the artists I've not heard of, because the ones I do know are universally terrible.

I reckon Martina Topley-Bird 'cause she's got such a weird name.

She used to go into the Coronation Tap when I was a regular there. Very sexy woman, but usually accompanied by terrifying minder.

I'm considering using my tried-and-tested "one 30 second sound sample off Amazon per artist" approach again this year with which I correctly predicted Ms. Dynamite as the winner last time, but I'm not sure I want to risk it.

Is this like the Grammy's?

Okay, I've insulted the Mercury often enough but saying it's like the Grammys is to take it too far.

Right, I tried doing the soudn samples thing but failed 'cause there aren't any of Dizzee Rascal anywhere on the web.

Edit: Never mind... it was on the BBC website. :o

Right, after careful perusal I've come to the conclusion that's they're all fucking crap and that the prize therefore will go to the Jazz entry, Soweto Kinch.

It is a load of crap isn't it. :)
