Good lord. I had no idea how slow this was going to be! I mean, even the usual holidays-at-my-parents' 56k was painful, but this is just frikkin' ridiculous.

Aaargh! I want broadband back. *whimper*

33.6k? Does that still exist?!! :eek:

Actually we have some old 28k modems sitting around the office, perhaps you could daisy chain them for downloading power :lol:

I gave my younger sister my old brick-style external 14.4k modem before I left the country, and to my knowledge she's still using it.

The torture of younger siblings never ends :D

Does anyone know what happened to V92? I thought it was supposed to replace V90 by now. Or is is just that all the rich people have broadband, and all the poor people can't afford an expensive modem?

Just what we needed, a whole new realm to endorse, force and propigate the class system.
Uprising!

I don't know about the others, but there's nothing wrong with propagating up the class system. Otherwise the error output wouldn't tell you where the exception happened, and it would just crash and burn.

My connection is limited to 33.6 by the university, despite having a 53/56 modem- its free, so they're not going to make it convenient, or upgrade, EVER. - its free, so I don't care.

I do all my big downloads from my office connection. That sentence just sounds, wrong, somehow :nervous:

U.S. Robotics is still peddling 56k modems for $80. I have no idea how they can justify that kind of price, or who would pay for it (except boneheads - I mean, come on, you can buy ten internal PCI modems for that! Even if nine of them break you're still ahead!)

And MDA, there's nothing wrong with prefering to use the office facilities :)

From what I understand, people like the lights on external modems. And non-Winmodems are still comparatively expensive (like, C$20).

I was stuck on 28.8 for ages cos of some stupid multiplexing exchange in my flat. Fortunately the neighbours moved out and when they left BT un-plexed me and now I'm up to 56K again.

It aint broadband but I can live with it.

<sick post about dropped connections>

Nice thing about the fast connection is that when you finally get through the queue at Fileplanet, you're almost done waiting.

I didn't know you could use the bathrooms at Fileplanet.
