View Full Version : I've decided I feel generous enough to disperse my Swedish Rock CD more broadly

Right. Now that this is nearing completion (several minor technical niggles left to solve, but I can work around that!) I've decided it's silly to let other people pay for fowarding the bastard, especially as I've already spent about $100 on CDs with relevant tracks on them and postage would be peanuts in comparison. BGH is obviously still getting one, as is Laz, but I'll send one straight to Guy and anyone else who feels they want one.

So, basically, if you want a CD containing a more or less appropriate selection of recent Swedish not-quite-indie-and-alternative-rock with extensive historical liner notes and a yet-to-be-designed cover please post in this thread and I'll add you to the dispatch list.

Can I get some of those gummy fish while you're at it?

Ah, scarbrous, I would love one of these CDs, but only if the mighty Candlemass are suitably represented on it?

I believe Entombed are swedish, they're quite a good band.

Refused are pretty good as well, but I don't think Snapcase likes them. Or Entombed for that matter.

Er, the closest you're getting is the new band of Entombed's former drummer.

Much appreciated.

Swedish death metal bands are a pale imitation of their Norwegian masters anyway.

That's true. I quite like Candlemass but I feel it'd spoil the mood of the compilation.

Are Emperor Norwegian then?

Yes, let's see how many Norwegian Metal bands funko can claim to have heard. :)

Anyway, the Swedes only claim to be kings of Doom metal.

So who are the kings of Grindcore and Sludgecore?

I think that's a good question, but I fear you may have opened the largest can of worms.

SUM are still kings of Goatcore

Unless you can come up with a better song title than 'Operation desert goat' or 'piss blooded bitch war of the goat' then i think that title goes to Goatsblood.

I only listen to Queercore myself.

Just the obvious ones, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Emperor, Satyricon, Zyklon/Zyklon-B I used to spend a fair bit of time looking for extreme metal bands. Emperor's new album was the only one I ever considered buying though.

Not sure about Sludgecore but according to Kerrang the Goatsblood album with the tracks we've heard on it is "seminal" and "genre defining". So I'd say that it's fair to quote Goatsblood as the kings of Grindcore. Bizarrely they are Canadian I think.

My bets are on the Melvins or, at a pinch, Isis for the Sludgecore title.

Yes, in answer to the first post.
