View Full Version : Is there a point at which record collections take on critical mass?

I ask 'cause this morning I finished rehousing my CDs (450-500ish according to a census taken at the time) onto a lovely new shelf in my room, and at one point I seriously considered the idea of organising them alphabetically. :nervous:

How many more am I allowed to buy before I become a vinyl-bashing, mint-copy-anal record monster who memorises catalogue numbers? I'm scared.

Fear not. My collection's over twice the size, and it's just randomly scattered in various boxes and shelves.

I have actually organised my cd's (100-150ish) alphabetically, a few months ago. Ofcourse, I'm too lazy to even put the right cd's in the right boxes, so the system breaks down pretty quickly.

Putting the CD's in wrong boxes is desecration. I'm afraid that if we ever meet I'm going to be forced to beat you to death with your shoes.

I alphabetically organised my underwear drawer today. Then I made sure that my fridge was arranged symmetrically. Then I turned the light switch on and off 23 times and washed my hands whilst reciting the Lordís Prayer. If I hadn't, the aliens would have killed my family.

wibble.

I liberated my CDs from all the wrong boxes during the rehousing... Probably a good two dozen of the buggers.

Mine are un-alphabetical and some boxes have several discs in each. Ha ha ha!
Having a two year old has managed to make keeping them organized a pleasant abstraction one only ponders now and then.

Mine are in alphabetical order, with each group being organised into chronological order (where there is more than one album by them). I am remarkably efficient with organisation like that. It is why I am very competent at overseeing all the archiving in quite a large pharmaceutical plant :D

...my major problem is that I am quickly running out of space for them...

And then I want to get a 22" monitor which this desk just will not cope with...talk about furniture crisis :bash:

I can't help the fact that you're living in a broom closet.

I have hundres and hundreds of CD's (certainly more than 700), and probably about 150 records. About 60% of my collection is absolute toss, and I'm pretty sure I'll never listen to it ever again. My CD's are 'organized' in a completely random fashion so it takes ages to find what I want, but I wouldn't want to change anything though because if I didn't have to look through great piles of stuff all the time I'd forget about some of the excellent music I own.

This is true...that would mean my 22" monitor would occupy approximately 40% of the volume of the room :D

I got about 4 CDs ordered by size
