View Full Version : Hey, Eurobuddies, what's this show, then?

Has an "alien" or something as the main character. Caught it on Public Broadcast Saturday night...an episode where he turns green 'cause his wife ate cake with somebody. He's supposed to be a superhero in a garish suit as well...and..uh...they have a freakish looking baby who can speak already.
Is this popular over there? Is it on the air still?
I've also seen one with a shrewish wife always getting into trouble and her henpecked husband (everybody hates her) and Dame whatshername as an undersexed divorcee' with a landscaper for an ex-husband, and something with priests in it.

Recommend any regular viewing of these gems? The alien one looked ok...not awe inspiring, but humorous.

Don't know the second one, from your description. Recognise the first one, and I think you'll find that the 'alien' is also one of the priests in the third one ...

which is 'Father Ted'. A classic. Watch this one. It took me a while to get into it, but I now recognise it for the supreme comedy it is. Sadly, the actor who plays Father Ted died during the second or third series, so there are only a couple of dozen episodes.

the first is called 'my hero' or something, and from what i remember it is absolute tripe - total sunday afternoon 'family viewing' shite

Second what everyone said. The priest comedy Father Ted is one of the funniest shows of all time IMO.

Dude, are you sure you weren't watching Mork & Mindy?

I thought My Hero was quite funny until they brought the baby into it.

His name is ardal o' hanlan.

Father Ted...yes...I've caught that in bits and pieces and it seemed good...
My Hero is a pass then? It does have a lot of Mork and Mindyesque "qualities" now that I think about it.
"Keeping up Appearences" seems like something my parents would watch, but I'm morphing into my parents, so maybe I will. :)
"A Fine Romance" or something is the one with Dame Edna I believe...doesn't really do it for me.
Your tv shows seem to suck. So sorry!

A Fine Romance? With Dame Edna? Never heard of it, sounds horrible.

Our bad shows do suck, yeah. Try watching the good ones. :p

I've always wanted to sit down and make a job of watching both Black Adder and Red Dwarf from start to finish, though I seem to recall RD got more crap and hard to follow as it went along...plus, didn't whathisname go to prison and then re-emerge as a battlebots host?
Black Adder seems excellent...may have to buy that on DVD or something.
And this one Laz is talking about sounds good as well...what are the other suggestions? Preferably the ones where they aren't speaking some kack dialect, as I have a really hard time understanding some of the heavier accents.

It was Dame Judi Dench.

BGH- the best British comedy shows of recent years are "Spaced" and "Brass Eye", though it would take a brave US channel to screen the latter.

"Spaced" is brilliant.

Hmmm...wonder if they're gettable?
I'll see...

Ah, yes...dame Judi. Pardon me.

She was just this side of shaggable back then...must be an older show.

Brass Eye here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000066NT9/qid%3D1054679467/026-8451879-4234867)

Spaced here (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-8451879-4234867 )

I don't think US Amazon carry these DVD's but Amazon UK should ship stuff overseas pretty cheaply I'd have thought.

Is it a compatible DVD to mine (PS2)?

Ahh, good point. I don't know. I don't have a DVD player so this whole Region thing is a bit of a mystery to me.

Whadda bout The Office?
It was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.

Good point. Unfortunately I just checked Amazon, and apparently the Office DVD isn't out in America yet either.

Yeah, but those of us with sattelite dishes get BBCamerica (hi OW_42!) They've been running it.

BigGameHunter

Oh, I see...hijack my thread to brag about your dish, will you?
FINE!

The Office is incredible, just watched the first season
never saw anything more funny and physically embarassing at the same time
at times it's almost painfully funny

We only have a dish because the cable sucks donkeys here. Cable has four shopping channels, and five religious channels and no BBCamerica, or tech tv.

And the dish is cheaper.

BigGameHunter
04-06-2003, 16:53:45
Yeah...the former tenant of the house I just move into had a dish...still wired and everything...just need to decide whether to get it, but a 2 year old and a 6 week old make tv watching sort of untenable.
