Buy this.

Seriously- it's one of the greatest TV dramas of all time, and it's finally got a decent DVD version at a decent price.

'decent dvd version'?, both of the customer reviews on that site say it is terrible quality

I presume you are talking about the quality of the actual production (ie muted colours, poor resolution etc) rather than the quality of the drama, which I don't think is really fair. Most medium budget 80's drama series would seem of pretty dubious quality, especially when compared to the quality you expect from a DVD these days.

Anyway, Edge of Darkness is worth getting just for its quality Eric Clapton penned soundtrack.

They're both old reviews. A much-improved version was released after then (the version I own). Apparently this one's even better- and it's cheaper and better-packaged too.

Synopsis of show? Is it better than "The Young Ones" or "Red Dwarf"?

Yes and yes.

It's a nuclear-age thriller, made in the mid 80's. A policeman is trying to establish why his daughter was killed, whilst coming apart at the seams. He discovers that she was involved with a radical group of ecological activists, and her death may have been linked with her attempt to break into a secret and illegal reprocessing plant. All the time he is being manipulated by shadowy civil servants with their own agenda.

Then it all gets very violent.

Then it gets very bleak.

Then it gets very strange indeed. There's never been anything else remotely like it.

I got the dvd some time ago and just watched the first episode last night. Really enjoyed it. Very atmospheric and intriguing. Loving the soundtrack too.

It just gets better and better. The last two episodes are just plain incredible.

Bob Peck was a damn fine actor- died much too young. I saw him at the R.S.C. and his Shylock for the BBC was very engaging.

He was. I'm apprehensive about this Mel Gibson movie version coming out.

Finished up on the weekend.

Found the last episode slightly anticlimactic and a bit confusing. Nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed it. At its best very compelling, scary and unexpectedly funny.
