View Full Version : I'm an LWP5 Participant and I would like my compilation to be in the _____ format

Okay, edited back, vaguely:

Funko has suggested a brilliant compromise solution that's so good we might as well go for it as it pretty much stops the entire debate.

Everyone still sends in their "feet" and "heart" song, but instead of bickering over formats we let people pick which format they want, either a 3-CD Audio compilation or a 1-MP3CD one. We can still save on initial costs by using a "buddy" distribution system, but that's a later issue.

Distributor is Shakey.

I personally want the 3 straight CDs, please.

Mp3. And I can help Shakey out with compiling and distribution.

27-05-2003, 20:09:59
I'd prefer CD, but if it ends up costing someone more to send me multiple discs, I'll settle for MP3.

(I still think we should keep the formats/projects separate and continue with the original LWP format instead of this heart feet deal. I don't know how democracy works in your part of the world, but it seems like we went through a lot of trouble to explain and propose specific ideas and now we've gone and chucked the whole thing out the window because of a whim. Whatever. Just get on with it!!!!!!)

To be fair, the "heart" and "feet" part was a given when everyone signed up, we shouldn't have allowed option 2 really since the amount of songs was already set.

27-05-2003, 20:16:39
Bull-pucky! It was a suggestion just like all the others and should have been put up for the vote as a stand alone.
But now you are creating a whole new program out of whole cloth.

I'm just saying this is much more confusing than necessary, and just as we're on the verge of sorting it all out, you sweep aside the whole voting process and put a NEW proposal in the place of all the others!!!
For fuck's sake, my wife can pick a purse and shoes to go with an outfit in slightly less time than this is taking.

27-05-2003, 20:31:45
Ah lighten up! :)
These endless machinations are about as fun to observe as the whole project is. You fellas can get mighty prissy

I honestly don't give a shit what the format is...just tell me what to do and i'll do it.

27-05-2003, 20:35:07
Oh, I'll tell you what to do all right!

Sorry...maybe moving 1800 boxes of crap on a holiday weekend has made me a mite testy?

Anywho...I'm a "doer" not a "planner" so these machinations are agonizing, especially when the solution SEEMED TO BE tantalizingly close!!!

27-05-2003, 20:42:04
BGH...I wasn't calling You prissy ;)

Here: have a couple of aspirin, a heating pad and a glass of bourbon...cheers to your new abode!

27-05-2003, 20:45:48
But can we make that two Vicadins, a hot oil massage and a Jack and Coke if its not too much trouble?

And order a hot oil colonic for Scabrous while you're at it!

MP3, AAC, Vorbis, whatever, as long as it isn’t going MP3 -> Wav -> MP3.

What "solution" were we coming close to then, BGH? We had four proposals that at least two people each voted for, and people definately dead set against at least two of the systems on various grounds.

But, look, here (http://www.counterglow.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13222): 16 people agreed to one setup no more than a week ago! That setup proved unworkable (because we won't fit 16 people onto 2 CDs, which is the maximum average it's practical to send out), but we can get around that by sending people who want it MP3CDs, and by using the "buddy" system. This is in fact just the original proposal that everyone agreed to, but with slightly modified distribution rules so as to make it workable.

The thing is, everyone agreed to the 2-song thing, if anyone's trying to tear up democracy it's the "let's go back to time limits" crowd.

As long as the mp3 files are named or folderised by CD and track number.

27-05-2003, 22:45:08
Forget it...just let me know when it's all sorted out, how/what I'm supposed to submit, how long my tracks are, what theme they are supposed to be, how much it's going to cost me and which came first, the chicken or the egg.
Just don't see the point of voting (and 5 each seems like a fairly strong endorsement of two concepts to further explore) when the vote is pointless.

Geez. Okay, okay, someone set up a democratic vote again.

And to think I thought we had this one sorted in record time.

I'm out of the organisation for this one, I'll participate but that's it.

27-05-2003, 22:55:42
Look, surely we can separate the structure/mechanics/logistics of the thing from the content? So this thread tells us (or told us) that we are flexible enough to work out a buddy system involving MP3 CDs and audio CDs. Now we just need to make sure everyone is on the same page about what’s going on these CDs.

28-05-2003, 08:28:11
Yeah, BGH, all this thread is doing is saying that instead of having a run-off between the two most popular options from the last poll we're going to let people choose which of the two they want.

28-05-2003, 08:30:09
Ah, Scabby put your post back. It's still a good idea.

Scabrous Birdseed
28-05-2003, 08:53:22
What BGH wants is a "normal" LWP3-style thing with 20 mins p/p. Which is fine, but not what we agreed to.

Er, I've lost the post. Mebbe later.

28-05-2003, 09:52:15
Yeah I know but we didn't vote for that...

28-05-2003, 11:24:14
I think I'll go for the 3 audio cd's. I don't really care about the format though, just get on with it.

28-05-2003, 14:55:49
Yeah...sorry...I was having a bad day yesterday.
As long as I get to hear some new music, I don't care what the format is. I guess I was just pumped up with the last round and looking forward to a similar format, as I liked it a lot.
But I didn't consider that some of you may be tired of the old way.
I'm kind of confused about the new proposal, but as I said, just tell me the deadlines, the formats and so forth and I'm on board.
I apologize to SB--he's put time and effort into this and it wasn't fair for me to land on him with both feet planted.

See, the thing is, after LWP1 and then 3 (er, 2 sort of got half-lost) we weren't sure if we were going to do more of the things. Now because LWP4 went so smoothly it's easier just to knock up a concept and kick it off- since there'll be an LWP6 and 7 anyway there's always gonna be a chance to implement whatever concept you desire. As you saw, quite a few people wanted a more "standard" one in the poll, so that may well be LWP6...

28-05-2003, 15:14:22
Sounds good. Sorry I was such a dick about it.

28-05-2003, 15:16:07
Are we sending now, what's the time limit and how do we "package" the submissions? WAV or what? Also, is it supposed to be anonymous again?
Details, details...

Scabrous Birdseed
28-05-2003, 15:30:42
I'll let the compilers (Shakey and Funko) organise all the details.

I believe that the planning stages of LWP3 and 4 both saw me using the phrase "God help us if there's another war."

Storm in a teacup.

Everyone is now happy. Post your preference.

28-05-2003, 16:29:18
Do you want your LWP5 compilation as a few Audio CDs or as a single CD of mp3s?

28-05-2003, 16:30:45
Luddite CD, ta.

28-05-2003, 16:31:44
I'm not fussed. I guess Mp3's are probably easier as that what I'll end up converting the audio CD into anyway.

28-05-2003, 16:55:07
Are you "eh?"ing me or the whole thread?

28-05-2003, 17:14:02
Mp3's, please.

I wouldn't mind being the US distributor if the compilers want to just send one (or whatever) disk over the Atlantic. I can also collect and send the submissions from here as well, if that works for everyone. Postage savings and all that.
