View Full Version : Trad Poll: So, what format do you peeps want on this LWP5 thang?

Scabrous Birdseed

Proposals in Sneak order:

1) Traditional CD format, one "heart" and one "feet" song, limited participation with priority given to new people and ME, ME, ME :bash:, er, I mean just new people. Loads of old LWP3/4 mainstays are likely to have to go.

2) Split into two groups of eight, each doing their own thang according to whatever setup they chose, in effect LWP5a and LWP5b. The finished products are exchanged between groups according to a "buddy" system so that everyone gets to read and review. A bit like two iterations of the LWP4 format, but fairer and simultaneous.

2b) As above except keeping the "heart" and "feet" idea, ie. like two simultaneous runs of proposal 1, but with the limit set to 8 instead of 12 or whatever. Likely to result in CDs that are half-empty, but fuck it.

3) One CD, unlimited participants, MP3 format, heart and feet in different directories of barely-listenable overcompressed shite. Strictly for the non-adudiophile.

4) Sneak shoots himself in the head.

Yes...voted for 2b and 3 each.

zmama

Yes, I did vote twice...both work for me and aren't mutually exclusive.

Tho I suppose with that reasoning, I should vote for #4 also.

Funkodrom

I think it's taken as read that we all also vote for #4

Couple of existing LWP participants voting for option 1, which means theymight not get to submit songs. Just checking they all understand that.

As the submitter of idea #2, I feel it is my duty to point out that it is the closest to the original format, more inclusive and reduces overall costs significantly.
The only problem I foresee is a bottleneck in the "buddy system" whereby some stoned goon would rather eat Cheetos all day than send on his four discs, thereby disrupting the flow.
But I think I'm the only one here who would fit that description, and I promise not to get stoned that day.

Well, Bas could also vote again, given that 4 is a…er…given.

I'm in favour of a run-off, especially seeing as at least one person has voted for an option that would eliminate himself...

I don't see why we can't do both of the two top options. Something like an MP3 SuperDisc is different in nature from an LWP project (too many songs to review properly, maybe do submitter histories?). We should probably just opt for both and have separate compilers.
I'd like to see both happen, personally, and know there are different levels of interest in both formats. I'd be happy to volunteer for the MP3 Project, as I've just ordered DSL service and shouldn't have too much difficulty with downloads now.
Anywho...seems like apples and oranges to me.
I'd like to have both: a mega comp I can play on my PC and cull audio tracks from, as well as the thoughtful continuation of LWP split into a 2 party buddy system.

Funkodrom
27-05-2003, 16:36:18
Just do the 2 song idea and allow people to buddy up with someone else to receive 4 CDs or get a single CD of mp3s sent to them.

Scabrous Birdseed
27-05-2003, 17:05:04
That sounds like a good idea! The two compilers would need broadband so they both can make "complete" CDs, but other than that it sould well workable.

Funkodrom
27-05-2003, 18:17:22
People could still post in CD tracks to the compilers if they wanted I think?

Scabrous Birdseed
27-05-2003, 19:09:05
Actually, you're right: If we keep one compiler and then double the four (three?) CDs using the buddy system, it'll work out fine.

Shakey, are you still up for it?

The Shaker
27-05-2003, 20:36:05
Yeah, as long as someone explains it all to me very very slowly.
