Can we get a post bot that, instead of the classic "reshuffle all the threads by starting at the top and bumping backwards" approach to spamming, instead starts at a specified thread on page two or three and then bumps every thread that would be in front of it, thus keeping the order of threads the same, and adding a post to each one.

We need a few more mods to be able to kill the postbots and delete all ther posts. The latest postbot seems to be starting at the back of the forum listing...

The problem is that to delete all the posts we need to delete the account and only admins can do that. We need more management dare I say it...

Or a modification to the software to block spam bots... ;)

That requires upgrading the software. Which means paying for a full year upgrade license, and with Jelsoft so close to launching a new version, it would be a waste of the money contributed to keep the site running.

There are a couple of free 'hacks' available but these are not reliable enough.

Any suggestions?

Make a really simple custom hack that's site-specific. Maybe just a chexk box at registration saying "I hereby certify that I'm not a spam bot". No-one is going to bother reprogramming their bot just to cover this one tiny site...

That would probably be ok, but if somebody was to specifically target this site, it wouldnt stop them (and I wouldnt be surprised if that happened).

Then here's a suggestion... make them admins instead.

There are people here that have been admins in the past that didn't hose over anyone, for instance.

It does seem that the weekend is the favorite time of some spammers to run their spambots. And it is the weekend that we are the most deserted...

I don't think whether or not somebody has hosed over others in the past should be a criterium. :nervous:

Still worth a try, I mean it's like three lines of code.
