...to the bottom of my optical mouse. I've lost one, and the others will probably go shortly. What can I do to correct this situation?

Probably better without the frictionless pads anyway. That way, you can let go of the mouse without it slipping off the desk.

Maybe a mousepad would help. Also, if there's exposed adhesive, it might help to clean it off.
