#1: How to randomly generate a nice, slighly geigeresque isometric landscape/crystal complex in PSP7.

a. Take any picture, prefferably of reasonably uniform colour.
b. Select the smudge tool from the retouch tool menu. Set the size to something appropriate for smudging out the whole picture- 30 or so round is good for a small (100x100) one. Set the step to one, the hardness to zero and the opacity to a medium value.
c. Now randomly "paint" the picture until moving the cursor stops having any effect whatsoever, when everything is all smudged out. Should take a matter of seconds up to a minute maybe.
d. Go Colours -> Histogram -> Equalize (or press Shift+E).
e. use the "sharpen more" tool 2-4 times until the contours are nicely defined but not glaring.

You need to zoom in to 3:1 or so to see the full effect. Might wanna do some resizing afterwards.

Er, I just realised that Opacity 50 makes it totally flat, and that some pictures don't work.

Use opacity 30-40, and a picture with high contrast.

Example result (includes some intervening erode/dilate adjustment):

That doesn't look at all like an alien.

It's more the colour scheme and the decay.
