At the very least it looks awesome, but how will it play, and will it destroy the under development CM2 engine/games?

It indeed looks very pretty, but I'm afraid it could just be a better version of Sudden Strike, just another RTS bore in the shallowest tactical sense.

I'd like to be wrong, though, as anybody who can produce a better CM than CM will get my vote.

They claim to be after realism, but claims are like black holes, they suck.

Did you just pass up the chance to make a blow job metaphor?

I felt like saying black hole.

They got a forum at Code Masters to discuss the game. Since it appears to be in early development I reckon folks should go over and add their comments so we don't end up with another Close Combat heap of shit.

And to really make your blood boil I saw some folks posting saying how they DON'T want this game to be like Combat Mission - we can not let this happen. We can not let Code Masters listen to these people and make a really sexy looking game that is made for people that don't like to think.

Join the Crusade against games being made for stupid people. We want depth of gameplay! We want to spark life in to parts of our brains that normal games can not reach! Viva La Revolution! Viva La Presidente! Viva Las Vegas!

People don't want it to be realistic? What kind of morons are they?

BoltyBoy

I quote from forum:

"I think Combat Mission was great for historical accuracy and for play balance and suchs things. As playing experience it was boring. I loved close combat and after that combat missions tunr approach was... blaah." - Anne Idiote

"BC, I presume is real time strategy so you wont have the unlimited time to strategize and direct troops. In fact I read 1C were greatly influenced by close combat and steel panthers when devising this game so I dont think it will play like combat mission at all." - Fuck Wit

God help us.

fuck
I thoroughly support your crusade, Bolty, but it's bound to fail : the market for morons will always be the juiciest one. Look at how many look alike RTS have been published and made money, and how many genuine, deep wargames like CM can survive the fight for top shelve space.

Pure economics ; I think there is place only for one editor on the CM market segment, and that's Battlefront. Not enough dedicated wargamers around.

I have to say it's not so accessible : the first time I saw and played Combat Mission, I nearly went back to the shop to get reimbursed. I'm now part of two ladders, one campaign and 2 ongoing tournaments :D

Maroule, that really sucks. Unless you are just another pretty face at your company, and the money stream flows just as well with you or without. Hard to imagine any of those companies are still around though...

Realism? Er... look at MOO3. That's how it go so... deep.

Yell for what you think would be fun. And remember to yell very loudly that what the hell the developers do, make sure it is *fun*. People play games to have fun. Whatever their sick, twisted version that might be...

One of the developers replied to say they are aiming to create a game that keeps both turn based and RTS players happy. If they pull it off this'll be a miracle of the 3rd millenium!

Didn't make any commitment regarding being able to replay parts of or the battle in whole.

This game sure looks promising but that's not a first for computer games in early development stage!

1. We will have pause mode.
2. We are thinking about making a good combination of real-time play and turn based to make everybody happy. Action fans will get high paced game, strategy fans will be able to plan their moves without any problems as well.
That in itself is not tricky. What is tricky is enabling it to be both fast enough for the RTS-ers not to lose interest and deep enough for the TBS-ers to want to pause and really think about their orders. That quote there just makes it sound like any RTS game with a pause function where you can also queue orders.

Venom

I'd have to bet the replay "turn" thing won't be included. Of course they already seem to be promising the world, why not promise a little more.

Sean
21-04-2003, 13:30:34
Exactly. They won’t include it, so they say they can’t discuss it.

Preview of Battlefield Command. Some small tidbits in there that don't sound very....realistic. Such as you can replace a tank crew with regular troops, but they won't be very good at tanking.

yeah, I saw that
looks like they're trying to glorify a (good looking) WWII RTS that should be as shallow as all the other ones

Venom

Yes, they keep claiming upon claiming that it will be deep and realistic, but I doubt it.

"A major part of the gameplay is figuring out how to use the right man for the right job, and also nurturing the skills of soldiers so they become better at working autonomously"

This sounds more like the Sims than a WWII game!

I can see it now, The Sims: Montecasino, The Sims: A bridge too far, The Sims: Operation Market Garden.
