... if this listing on eBay is any indication.

This is insane?!

What the hell? Is it a rare misprint or something?

I remember a while ago somebody linked an auction for a MS Windows 2.0 box set that was at over $200.

Holy fucking shit. That's all I can say.

And the person selling it has never even played it and even he knows it's shit.

But which asylum did they let the poor dork of a buyer out from?

17-04-2003, 12:02:16
That's just shocking.

Of course, it's probably just Sid himself jacking the prices up.

17-04-2003, 12:07:49
That is unbelievable.

There you go. Definitely a bunch of short bus riders.

Another description for it on eBay...

"This auction is for the beloved and increasingly hard to find Alien Crossfire, the official expansion pack for Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Note that the Alpha Centauri CD is required to install/play Alien Crossfire. All items are in mint condition. "

(Bold emphasis mine).

Mwa ha ha!

I guess I'm just amused that you can make more money off Sid's work by reselling it than Sid did merely by preying on the gullibility of the uninformed masses. There's a certain delicious irony about that. Especially so since you can probably pick it up for free of KaZaA or something. Or grabbing it from RC's coaster pile :)

Or get it for $1 in the bargain bin all around here. Of course, those are the jewel only sets... they tossed out the boxed sets long ago.

Don't Laugh about SMAX -- it gets those kinds of prices all the time.

I should know.

I tried to buy one.

Ah...the thread:

It's available off of underdogs. Why are you trying to buy the CD?

Hey DS, can you buy me a few copies of the jewel case version and send 'em this way? I stand to make a few hundred bucks :)

BTW, the Underdogs site dosen't have the wonder movies, .wavs, or other little extras.

21-04-2003, 08:11:26
Qaj, that involves me physically doing something. You know the odds are pretty low for that.

As we really do have plenty of those things running around here, I'd expect that to remain the same in your area.

And most people didn't care about the movies, after the first few times. Although the voice overs...

True, but since I haven't actually seen the expansion movies yet, I am still within "the first few times" (so I care -- dammit!).

The voice overs are kind of disturbing, as the game was pulling existing voice overs from 'classic' to use for the expansion improvements and techs.

I remember hearing Aki a few times, so they must have included a few of them -- why not all?

22-04-2003, 01:58:56
Because they only had to add like, 12 or 14. A couple for each new faction, and that was it. Cheap that way.
